Why do people think Geary is captaincy material ?
He is not. What an ordinary player he is. Please outline what his skills and leadership qualities are. I can't see them at present.
I started with nothing and I've got most of it left!

Pretty much because he is seen as the right age and we have no one else in that age group.White Winmar wrote:He is not. What an ordinary player he is. Please outline what his skills and leadership qualities are. I can't see them at present.
But yeah I agree. He's a god player but not quite capt material

Really?
Suppose I'm one of them, today's game hasn't changed my perception.
Had a heap of it and crucial in pressuring and creating I thought.

Hope not - he will be remembered as one of the worst captains in the AFL. Good honest player - no more than that.

Re: Why do people think Geary is captaincy material ?
I like Geary as I think he goes in as hard as anyone on our list. This is unfortunately offset by very poor disposal, but he is not alone in that regard. He is a great leader for the young blokes with his attack on the ball and the man, but his turnover rate would preclude him from being a captain IMO.
Re: Why do people think Geary is captaincy material ?
He has a real crack.... Is far from a bad player... But NO not a captain...
I'm sure he's already in the leadership group??
Love the way he plays.... Tough as F***

Re: Why do people think Geary is captaincy material ?
Not suggesting Geary is the next skipper... But who else does everyone suggest?
Apparently mcevoy is trade bait, armo probably not a consistent enough player, dal and Joey too old?
I think it would be wrong to lure a gun player to the club with the captaincy as they may not have the respect of the playing group - which is crucial.
I'm scrapping the barrel otherwise....!

Re: Why do people think Geary is captaincy material ?
Smashed his opponent today and had a sum total of zero turnovers.
Plus, the captaincy is coin flips and press junkets these days. Leadership groups have taken a lot of the heat off captains. Hence why several teams have passed over genuine leaders for next generation stars.
Can't see a problem with him in a leadership role. Plays as hard as anybody in our colours. I guess some people don't know what to say when they're not sniping at someone.

GOP
In Springfield, they're eating the dogs. The people that came in, they're eating the cats. They’re eating – they are eating the pets of the people that live there.

Geary is a GOP and has leadership qualities but he's not captaincy material.

If I had to select a skip tomorrow, I'd go Dempster. In a few years when he retires, someone like Ross or Newnes could be ready to take the captaincy.
I'm not convinced regarding McEvoys future with us, but if he was to stay, then he has the right tools.

Maybe not Captain - but we was very good today. I thought it was his best game for us actually in terms of actually leading the midfield.
