Milne Back in 3 Weeks?

Good on the Captain, Milney's team mates and the ALPA for standing up for him. One of the things that makes this nation civilised is the presumption of innocence. We cannot set dangerous precedents for all workplaces because of what the media, AFL or sponsors want. Particularly in these bizarre set of circumstances. f*** them!

I heard Mark Evans being interviewed on 3AW earlier. He was very good at ducking a direct question from Gerard Healy who asked if the AFL had any input to the decision to put Milney on "Indefinite Leave of Absence". To me, the AFL gave OUR Board a Directive/Ultimatum to not play Milney until AFTER Womens Round. That suggests that the AFL is right into tokenism and image protecting and has precious little respect for Stephen Milne, the other party involved or the St Kilda Football Club.

My prediction is that Milney will be back for the Carlton Game !!

NEW scarf signature (hopefully with correct spelling) will be here as soon as it arrives !!

I still don't think it's necessary for him to play while charged with such a serious offence. At what point do you put football aside? A murder charge?

Sure he wants to keep playing and his mate want to look after him, but the club will become a circus if he plays while this is going on.

The other fact is that he has played one good game so far this year, very lucky to be in the side on form.

How can anyone that doesn't know the facts, 'support' Milne either way?

This is my take on it right:

Let's say one of your staff at work has called in sick a couple of times recently. You don't think anything of it, as you trust them and support them fully as per normal.

But.....another trusted staff member approaches you and tells you that he's heard that the dude has been bullshitting about being sick and has actually been 'wagging' work.

Suddenly, you have doubts about that dude. There's no proof so you don't act on it or officially manage the situation in any way - but, your feeling toward that dude may change slightly.

Just slightly. Enough that you wouldn't confidently stand up in front of the entire office and present them with the Employee of the Month award, but not enough that you would sack them or discipline them in any way.

That's how I feel about Milne. I can't genuinely be 'against' him, and I'm not, as he's not guilty of anything yet. But I also couldn't stand and cheer him if he kicked a goal on Saturday. I wouldn't feel comfortable seeing kids cheering him - but I also wouldn't be comfortable seeing people boo and abuse him.

Personally, I just think they had to stand him down on full pay.

Disclaimer: I have two young daughters so any crime or accusation of this nature concerns me greatly.

He's always denied it.
He is a legend of this club - 4th highest goalkicker 6th highest games played.
We should honour him with trust and respect.
He should play.

If not, no-one should sing his part of the song till he is back.

I think the club and and afl want to see what the cops come up with at the committal hearing before making a decision either way on this.

Not sure if we should be looking to Melbourne on how to run the club...

What about Andrew Lovett?

Con you keep thinking the committal hearing is in 2 weeks. It will probably be after the delisting period so its months away. I dont think he should play and comparing rape to bashing someone is silly. As someone else said when do you stop playing, murder? By the way i think he is probably not guilty or certainly hope he isnt. Doesnt mean I think he should play. I have changed my mind from initially thinking he should play. Now I cant see any good it does for anyone.

Considering the nature of the crime he is charged with, then he definitely should be stood aside while the legal process takes place..lucky that he has some support behind him I suppose, as in a lot of other workplaces he would have been shown the door regardless. I'm not sure why the bloody players are carrying on, as "indefinite" just means an undetermined time, maybe that's too hard to understand for highly paid young guys in an enviable environment who think this incident is as serious as an overdue library book or unpaid speeding fine. Lets not forget this kind of crime has a victim, so it is very serious.

I don't agree at all.

I can't help but feel there's a strong sense of 'I don't care what he did cause he plays for the Saints' mentality creeping in for some people.

If this was another club, and he played, and I saw ferals blindly supporting him just because he plays for their club - I'd probably be disgusted. And so would other supporters and the public if he plays for us.

And the club can't afford to be perceived like that.

And the AFL can't either.

Stephen Milne accuser 'felt used'

THE woman who alleges Saints star Stephen Milne raped her told footy legend Phil Cleary she was pursuing charges because she was "deceived".
This morning's heading and by-line in the hun.

Get use to it.

If he was on leave until this was resolved the club would be quarantined and it would be much less damaging.

As it stands we're headed for death by a thousand cuts.

Not silly to compare rape to bashing a woman, certainly far worse, but not silly.
Terrible situation as Milne is in public and continuing to play hurts the justice process, I don't think he should play, but he can't stnd out for a long period either.
Whilst I agree quickening the process is favourable treatment, I would have thought given the bungled investigation it deserves to be heard quickly for the sake of all parties.

Is there something that can happen between now and July 7 which would lead to no charges being laid? Or is it merely a formality?

Agree.

I'd rather he retires given everything that's happened the past 9 years.

Semantics... He will be charged, that is known... Can't pretend otherwise because of a technicality.

formality i would think...but nevertheless he is yet to be formally charged...all the articles that say he has been are incorrect.....

From News Ltd 18 June quoting Vic Police referring to Milne:

"Victoria Police on Tuesday confirmed it has charged a 33 year-old man from Cheltenham with four counts of rape following an alleged incident in 2004"

So I presume he has been charged unless the cops are lying.
