Re: Free Kick Count up to round 11
The question is - why?
The pattern is too consistent to just be the Saints getting a bad rub of the green. And as much as we all feel persecuted at times, I honestly can't believe the umpires (or the Football Gods) are out to get us.
There must be a reason why the free kick count is consistently against us. Are we second to the ball too often? Is there something wrong with our tackling technique? Do we give away too many undisciplined free kicks?
I hope this is something the coaching staff are analysing to determine why it's happening and how they can coach the players to improve in this area.

We are undisciplined.
Old enough to repaint, but young enough to sell

So undiscipilined that we lay 40 more tackles the WCE but they get more HTB decisions.
Might as well not bother tackling at all
Lance or James??

That was not the story tonight though...Bernard Shakey wrote:We are undisciplined.
Re: Free Kick Count up to round 11
Sometimes you can win the tackle count because you are second to the ball. However, there were some howlers given to the Wet Toast especially Dempsters tackle on Priddis, no way that should have been given. Also in the 1st quarter Roos tackle which forced the Wet Toast defender to drop the ball was not given.
In a close game these decisions have a very distinct effect on the outcome.

We have not had the rub? Fair to say.....
Only an antagonist would argue differently.... Stats back up this view.
Not sure if we are anymore undisciplined than the next team, but if so, that's a question that would need to be answered by the coaching staff

Re: Free Kick Count up to round 11
Yeah, for the majority of the season, we didn't do a great deal to earn a lot of free kicks and have given away too many silly ones in the process.
It's fair to say we got a raw deal in our twilight match today, however.

Maybe the new thing to do is what Dunnell did on one occasion tonight which worked a treat - Just hit the ball out of their hands.joffaboy wrote:Might as well not bother tackling at allBernard Shakey wrote:We are undisciplined.

Re: Free Kick Count up to round 11
Don't worry about free kicks for & against...what I'd like to see is a list of Goals from Free kicks for and against - I think that will be a lot more interesting (or depressing).

Re: Free Kick Count up to round 11
Our backline is often "out-sized," which results in our players having/trying to scrag to cause the ball to spill. Any similar thoughts?

Re: Free Kick Count up to round 11
I would like to see 50m penalties added to this thread. A 50m penalty is at least worth a free kick, and we are being shattered with these penalties against us.
