Changes Vs Blues
Here's my wish list:
Kosi for Hickey
Gilbert for Webster / Ray
Saad for Milera / Schnids (if fit)
Others to Consider:
Dunell
White
Ledger
Thoughts?

Re: Changes Vs Blues
Hopefully Hickey is fit for next week.
Neither White nor Webster is ready for AFL yet.

Hopefully it all be all three above out as you suggest, but I'm hoping for one of Saunders or Murdoch out replaced with Heath.
Problem is Watters doesn't like making more than about 3 changes a round like most other clubs do I feel....
i am Melbourne Skies - sometimes Blue Skies, Grey Skies, even Partly Cloudy Skies.
Re: Changes Vs Blues
Out Kosi (susp) Saad (omit) Gilbert (inj)
In Hickey Milera Gwilt
Ledger could come in if any of the younger crew pulls up sore.

Re: Changes Vs Blues
Lets assume Kosi, Gilbert, Lenny are the forced outs... I'd say Saad needs a spell too. Problem is that all four natural Kosi replacements (Hickey, White, Maister, Lee) are injured, and Rhys is playing, admirably, as a key back.
My thoughts:
Who ever comes up for Kosi
Curren for Saad - requires upgrade
Ray for Murdoch (Hayes)
Dunell for Gilbert
EDIT: Realised what I did wrong. Forgot Seb Ross.
Curren to be upgraded and play small forward changing on ball. Has shown he can grab a sausage or two. Ray onto a wing with Newnes or Dal etc coming into the middle; Ledger misses out as his disposal is poor (and we already have Jonesy) and because Ray has the edge in experience. The reasoning for the last one is that Simpkin, much as I love him, seems to be significantly down on form and confidence at the moment, and Dunell seems to be on form. Nice enough height to pay running mid-sized defender, and Gwilty not quite ready yet.
Thus:
FB: Dempster // Stanley // Roberton
HB: Wright // Fisher // Geary
CR: Dal Santo // Armitage // Montagna
RK: McEvoy // Steven // Jones
HF: Curren // Siposs // Saunders
FF: [Hickey] // Riewoldt // Milne
Int: Ross (sub) Newnes Dunell Ray
Em: Milera Ledger Blake

Hayes was already out of our last match barrels.

I'm aware, but just making a formal note of it. Helps with the explanation as well.saintspremiers wrote:Hayes was already out of our last match barrels.
Also mea culpa. See edit.

Re: Changes Vs Blues
Thanks. this has been annoying me the last few days.dragit wrote:Hayes didn't make the final team so can't be counted as an out.
People keep saying "Hayes wont play" or 'Hayes is an out'.
He was already out and hes out for 4 more weeks.
Stop talking about Hayes!

I did have White in for debut at ff but apparently he is injured as are Maister and Lee and, of course, Kosi is suspended.
So we are light on for tall forwards.

Re: Changes Vs Blues
Out: kosi, Murdoch, Saunders, Gilbert, milne, jones
In: hickey (if fit), dunell, gwilt, Lee, milera, ledger
My thinking, hickey for kosi is strait forward if he's fit. Gwilt in for Gilbert again fairly straight swap although either of Blake or simpkin could be considered depending on form, overall balance. Newnes and Ross are showing good signs and need a steady run in the 1sts, but I think Murdoch an Saunders have been ok as first year players, they've had a taste, now need to go back to VHL for a bit play solid footy and come back towards the 2nd half of th season if there form and fitness are good. Dunell for mine has been a glaring omission this season...why is he not playing on a wing or half back/forward flank?! He's not young enough to waste another half season in the vfl, and I personally think he's going to be a very good afl player for the saints! Skill, pace, good size, seems pretty injury free, good character by all reports. My ledger for jones swap is to give ledger another good go at afl, give him a handful of games and see if h steps up...if not, delist him at years end. Geary stepping up as a run with tagger means jones could probably be overlooked to experiment with team balance. It's a tough call on jones as he's been playing some solid footy, but again, age and his limitations mean we should try something different IMO. If lee is fit again he should play. See what he can do under the roof at etihad, needs afl game time...too old to be wasting time in vfl if the recruiters thought he was good enough. We know he is good at 2nd tier footy. As for Milne out milera I'm, it's just based on age. Both saad and Milne are down...I just think saad needs to play, small forwards go n and out of form, it's a real test fo him. He's the next generation, so I say persevere and see if he's good enough to work his way out of th slump, because that will give more confidence than a month in vfl IMO. Milera responded well to being dropped so get him back in at milnes expense and see how it goes...needs afl game time.

OUT: Koschitzke, Gilbert, Saad, Murdoch, Saunders
IN: Hickey, Ray, Ledger, Gwilt, Dunell
B: Wright Fisher Geary
HB: Roberton Stanley Ray
C: Dal Santo Montagna Dempster
HF: Steven Riewoldt Siposs
F: Dunell McEvoy Milne
R: Hickey Armitage Jones
I: Gwilt, Ross, Newnes
S: Ledger
E: Milera (possibly for Ledger), Webster, Blake
Hickey: To come in as number 1 ruck for first half, Big Mac to play full forward and do some relief ruckwork, until Hickey is subbed off (unless injury prevents).
Ray: BOG for Sandy. Will be needing him, Geary and Wright to quell Betts, Walker, Garlett.
Gwilt: A very useful addition down back, more maturity, especially since Dempster might be moved into the midfield. OR he could be a very interesting forward experiment...
Dunell: named in the best for Sandy for a number of weeks. Deserves his chance
Ledger: In for Saad, I feel he offers a bit more creativity and more in the midfield. Will inject some pace when he is subbed on. An AFL game might be just what he needs...
[*] Need to move away from small forward reliance. Giving Milne some more space, and allowing him to play deep could give him some confidence (and also assist with fitness). Our young guys in Siposs, Dunell, Ross, Newnes and Ledger give far more rotating through the midfield and forward line than Saad/Milera/TDL could do.
[*] Stanley needs to continue his apprenticeship down back, especially given the Warnock/Hampson combination could blow us out up forward.

Re: Changes Vs Blues
Not sure I'd be pushing Saunders out to soon. Sharp highly skilled mid, bit more composure and he'd have at least one goal.
Ray I think will come in for Gilbo and we need his experience. usually plays well against the baggers.
Hickey is obvious but if he's not fit I'm not sure - Lewis is too light on just yet.
Jack N stays in for Lenny
Tom H for Kosi
Ray for Gilbo
Gwilt for Murder
