Newnes = Lesson
Looked very raw in the early rounds
had a spell in the 2s and came back a better player
Not perfect tonight by any means but best performance so far
see that's how the game works. You let the kids play a few games, if their form drops off , send them away with things to work on and then play them when they force their way back in better for the experience

Re: Newnes = Lesson
Thought he was good. Terrible decision not to pay him a mark early in the game. Like many of the young guys, just doesn't have the tank at the moment to go the whole game.

Re: Newnes = Lesson
Once his body is as tough as his mind he'll be a handy player. Unfortunately just can't win contests at the moment due to lack of strength. Should probably play another 10 games this year though.

Too weak - needs to get on Essendon's legal IV drip ( which no doubt will become illegal if we try it).

Best game Ive seen from him.
TBH I was half thinking has this kid got it? what I saw tonight, composure, good hands sound decisions tells me he has.

Re: Newnes = Lesson
He has not played one game in the twos this year?!
He was out injured.
He's a good young player, with plenty to learn

Re: Newnes = Lesson
I think the thing is though, that was only his 11th game…
We are expecting a lot from loads of guys with under 50 games experience…
Newnes is getting better, but will still have plenty of brain-fades over the next 2 years…
Roberton is starting to look very composed, he's only on 42 games… but basically a veteran compared to about 10 blokes tonight.

Damn fine nonsense remark. And, you would expect a young fella coming back with 2 plates in his head to be just how less "weak"?perfectionist wrote:Too weak - needs to get on Essendon's legal IV drip ( which no doubt will become illegal if we try it).
For a bloke with your handle, you ain't.

Newnes is playing with two plates in his smashed face (courtesy of that animal crim Brogan).
Gutsy effort to come in without notice and play the way he did.
Young and will get better.

Lance or James??
There comes a point in every man's life when he has to say, "Enough is enough." For me, that time is now. I have been dealing with claims that I cheated and had an unfair advantage in <redacted>. The toll this has taken on my family, and my work for <redacted>and on me leads me to where I am today – finished with this nonsense. (Oops just got a spontaneous errection <unredacted>)

Re: Newnes = Lesson
It's not easy at AFL level to jump straight back in with the facial injury that he had. Lots of development needed. He has the right attitude and a good go at it. Skill level is quite good for now.
Another case of "development" in play.

Re: Newnes = Lesson
On last night's efforts I think he has improved his kicking. Much less of the bombing away that we saw in early games. What has also surprised me about Newnes is his pace. He and Ross in particular put in some big run downs that put pressure on the Collingwood kicker and caused turnovers. As stated earlier it seemed that the kids didn't really have the tank to run out the last half of the game, but we need to keep persevering. Newnes looks the goods.

Kudos to the coaching staff. Who would have thought they knew more than the people on this forum by playing newnes last season?!
I thought he was fantastic. Good disposal. Excellent mark. Chased and tackled. Big future at the sainters!!
