Where do we play Gilbert?
Seen him play just about everywhere in the last season and the Suns game on Saturday.
Strong mark, good pace, endeavor at the ball good, but he seems to be out of place on the field.
Has played half-back, centre, forward, tagger and even pinch-hitting in the ruck but has not achieved his potential as yet. Undisciplined acts and careless disposal have brought him to my attention more than the good things he does.
What do we do with him and where do we play him?
Not a player I would like to see let go, but he is trying my patience just a tad.

so the experiment is still on going.
for me half back flank, get him to his best and then trade.

Half back flank at the Zebras until he learns how to kick to a team mate.
And if he never learns then we're no worse off.

What is "wing" these days? Just another midfielder who isn't in the square at centre bounces but apart from that is identical to all the rest? How does the role work exactly?Beno88 wrote:Wing.

He should be played as a defensive minded but goal kicking forward, for mine.

Re: Where do we play Gilbert?
I reckon he does a pretty good job everywhere he plays, every time he plays. Definitely tries his best. Not something you can say for all players on the list.
If he's not good enough in so many different positions then why don't three or four other blokes put him out of the team and earn hundreds of thousands of dollars? Must be drongos.

Re: Where do we play Gilbert?
Modern wingmen are all about line breaking and run & carry, with an ability to defend the other way. Gilbert has strong attributes in this area.bergholt wrote:What is "wing" these days? What was wrong with game?
I don't blame him for Gary.
His 2 assists were quality

Re: Where do we play Gilbert?
Play him where he has played his best football- half back...not much good anywhere else. Quality midfielders use the ball well by hand and foot, and are good both sides of their body..so I would not have him in the midfield..maybe as a ruck rover running player otherwise.

Re: Where do we play Gilbert?
Sandringham... the guy is not up to AFL Standard anymore
Kicking - very below standard
Decision Making - even lower
It's a recipe for disaster imo, he seems to lack 'depth perception' also, his kicking and decision making is just woeful. One of the worst players in AFL Currently.

Re: Where do we play Gilbert?
i dont know but i must have seen a different game on sat.Was there and when gilbert was put on ablett in the 2nd and 3rd quarter ablett had 5 and 4 disposal. watching it live there were numerous time they looked for ablett and sam had him covered and ran with him so the suns couldnt go to him. unfortunetly dropped a sitter in the last but once again was busting his arse and should have taken the mark, terrible decision against for a hold and overall only seen 1 bad kick and also seen him create 2 - 3 goals. i think he will be in for a good year
go the saints

Of course it is. The only difference is the centre bounce and even a wingman has to go in there occasionly to give a chop out to the other mids.

Re: Where do we play Gilbert?
well he went within a whisker of being AA at half back, intercept marking and breaking lines. has not played there much since and has been no good since. I'd suggest we stick with what he is good at.

Thought he was far from out worst, and has shown signs of having a very good seasons once we're into the teeth of it and our lineup is settled...
His kicking isn't great, but his other attributes, competitiveness and aggression especially, make up for his weaknesses IMO...
Im a fan...
On the Wing, rotating HBF for mine..
