Baker banned for life
Steven Baker has been banned for life after his hit behind play when playing for Sorrento the other week against Red Hill.
Well technically it's 6 week suspension but he only needed 1 week for it to become life. Sorrento apparently appealing decision.
Got what he deserved IMO.

Re: Baker banned for life
well hang on a minute.........
The former AFL tagger was found not guilty of striking and not guilty of charging, but was found guilty of a rough conduct charge despite a lack of video evidence. The three field umpires also told the hearing they didn't see anything.
so if no one saw anything how on earth can you come to a conclusion if two players smack heads and one ends up with a broken jaw
i know he has done some stupid things in his time, but seriously two players going for the ball and one is now rubbed out for life???
anyone see the incident?
seeing as no umps did and there was no video
hang on
i have a feeling of 'we've been here before??!'

Re: Baker banned for life
Good point Matrix.
His past history doesn't help, but the matter should be judged "on the evidence" and not on hearsay, or someone elses view of "likellihood."
However, I don't have a lot of sympathy for Bakes - his not too distant TV interview showed that he was a smart-arse, in my view.

Ridiculous rule to be honest. Should appeal and can hopefully play a few more seasons.

The game, especially at suburban level, is better off without Baker in it... Best he just cops it on the chin and gives it away...

How do you know what happened? From what Ive heard it was a clash of heads with both running at the contest. He got 6 weeks so its safe to say it wasnt a king hit as he would of got far more. Joke of a penalty.

I too didnt see it, but from what I've heard it was a lot worse than such an accident you've described. stkildathunda is pretty steadfast on the issue also and I take his opinion seriously. Enough for me to presume there's more than just smoke, particularly given a)his career and b)his open mike interview...CURLY wrote:Sobraz wrote:And break a few more jaws??CURLY wrote:Ridiculous rule to be honest. Re: Baker banned for life
I gave up on him in 2011 at the hawks game when he hit a player ( i think it was mitchell ) for no reason .
A friend an i had the perfect angle to see him do what was totally unnecessary . We both agreed that he was a D*&*head and it was time for him to go .
Was surprised that he was dirty on the saints for getting rid of him at the end of that season .

Got given 6 weeks so there was clearly enough reason to suggest it was hardly delibrate.

Did you watch them the whole game? Did you watch Mitchell to see what he did?

Its amazing how people hear two different things. I heard off the coach of Rosebud, who granted didnt play that day, that it was delibrate. I think Curly may be making it up. The player who got hit was giving him s*** so he wacked him.

Think we are on same page. I've spoken to numerous locals down here and not one them has said it was an accident. They all said at time he deserves to go for 8+ weeks.
Of course as its not massive town things can spread rather quickly but these people would have no reason to lie to me about what happened.

Think you will find he is going to do some sort of martial arts very shortly. This may quicken it up. And even though I think Bakes is guilty and has done some stupid things in his career im unsure a life ban is the way to go.

Re: Baker banned for life
I was told by a Red Hill person that it was an aggressive hip and shoulder that ended in a head clash.
But if people think he's guilty, then that's all that matters really.

They haven't managed to sew his head back on yet, and all other witnesses are too busy posting here.Devilhead wrote:No testifying tribunal statement from the guy he hit??

Correct. But hey lets condem him given he was cleared of both striking charges.satchmo wrote:I was told by a Red Hill person that it was an aggressive hip and shoulder that ended in a head clash.
