Add anzac & queens birthday, is really okay that one club always has nearly every marquee fixture? No wonder they get 3,000,000 from media rights… It is a farce that will surely have to end one day.

So are you saying they get more for media rights than other clubs? By the way I think we had about 6 Friday night games last year and lost 1.2 million.

Total BS. Collingwood & essendon get great exposure every year regardless of how they are performing, the dogs & roos could play off in a grand final and still not come close.

As far as our loss is concerned, maybe something to do with the fact that we are scheduled to play at a ground where a profit is nearly impossible, hence we asked if we could play our home games at the MCG, where even a small crowd makes more money.

As a club we chose Etihad - it's our frighin fault

Had we chased the G early days this wouldn't be a problem

Let's stop blaming stadium deals and start looking closer to home - see our newest bright spark Board decision where we are investigating once again Moorabbin ( after pissing away squill ions at seafood)

Totally agree we have been incompetent no doubt…

However as a club now, we don't have a choice where we play or what we receive, we are bound by a contract which the AFL have signed. We don't even have a 'stadium deal', we are fixtured there because the AFL have signed on to play a certain amount of games there per year, so we are left to accept any rogering that colonial stadium give us.

The fact is we have no say over where we play or how much we can make from games, nothing to do with our board.

Even if our home ground was the G they would still put us at Etihad a fair bit because we just dont get crowds at the G. Start blaming some our piss weak supporters instead of always looking for other faults.

Yes let's blame the supporters also for wasting millions on suspect training centers we outgrow in 2 yrs...

While we are there... let's blame supporters for selling out long term members for " Johnny come lately" Ultimate Member deals.... only to again relinquish, send an apology letter and admit they stuffed it (got mine recently.... wonder what that cost???)

Let's blame supporters for the FACT Essendon and Blues can negotiate decent Etihad deals while we can't?

Facts are we get rogered cause our no name Prez and Board do little to change our plight - we bend over frequently and appear to have in place a very well drilled "don't upset Andrew" policy.

Guess its easier to blame the no name mob than lay accountability where it ought to be.

The supporters are who they are. There's no use blaming "supporters" - they can't be controlled.

What can be controlled is stadium returns. IF we had a similar stadium deal to Geelong or West Coast, my quick sums (based on media reports) put us $2-3m better off each year. That's huge money.

The sooner the AFL buy Etihad, the better. The stadium should then be used on a not-for-profit basis for AFL matches - i.e. once costs are covered, all money from AFL matches goes to the clubs.

Our best chance is to develop NZ as a viable 2nd home, in the same way that Hawthorn have done with Tasmania. If we redevelop Moorabbin and split our Melbourne presence between Seaford and Moorabbin, we will ensure we capture the whole Peninsula and South-East market in Melbourne. The ultimate would be to have our own VFL team playing out of Moorabbin ... which will hopefully be achieved within 5 years. A close alliance with Sandy is a good 2nd choice.

This spreads our presence and boosts our profile, opens up sponsorship opportunities and will increase revenue.

This revenue can then be used for football ... it's no coincidence that the Preliminary finalists of the last 2 seasons have all been in the top 6 sides for football spending in that year.

The AFL will eventually introduce a cap on football department spending, in the same way as there is a cap on player payments.

The richer clubs will cry foul (as they did with the salary cap), but in the end it will be good for the game.

I don't think we did have a choice. When the AFL decided to shut Waverley down we were told we were going to Etihad as the 'G was fully tenanted.

And the AFL negotiated our deal which was not allowed to be as good as the anchor tenant arrangement (also negotiated by the AFL).

When we fiorst went there Smorgan was running around telling anyone that would listen that the dome was the 'goose that laid the golden egg'. Butterss said in 2000 that the numbers didn't stack up. We've been paying that thing off for over a decade for GWS to eventually own >5% of it....

Far out they must have gone crazy on outside deals again the Blues. How when every Blues member had them as favourite for the premiership do they not make a profit? Chris Judd must be demanding a personal servant to wipe his arse with $100 bills again.

On Etihad, I heard we were forced to Waverley got settled then the AFL told the Saints and Hawks that they would need to spend their own money to do an upgrade on WP and the Saints tried to do the sums while the Hawks secretly signed up at the G while stringing us along. The anchor tenant position which was on offer as a tempter went to Essendon meanwhile. We were told pretty much we needed to make a quick decision and were left in a non bargaining position. We went cap in hand to the docklands crew who drew up a financially crippling contract which we had no chance in making money on. the rest is history.
