Cripps and P.26 for Brown?

Post: # 1276704Post saintspremiers »

Hickey deal has meant we have picks 25 and 26 now.

My gut feel tells me that we will be looking to trade one of those picks.

Either 25 or 26 + Cripps for Brown may be the only chance we have in getting Brown, as a straight swap appears off the table.

Would this be an acceptable deal for us??

From a value perspective it could favour them considerably but from a needs basis it could be our best bet!
I would trade an airplane for a commodore if I had no other way to offload it, I need a car but I can't fly a plane!

Maybe this year?

The whole Brown West Coast thing has got to the point where it's difficult for me to consider any deal without thinking West Coast are screwing us.

So that deal may go ahead. And it may be a good one.

But I can't help thinking that if it does.....

......West Coast are screwing us :(

So I guess we'll definitely do it.....but maybe trade our 6th round picks so we don't look like total dorks...........and if they won't take that, then what the hell, lets throw in pick #25 too.....

I think it will look more like Cripps & 26 for Brown & one of 41, 61 or 62.

Cripps is gone so it's only a matter of sweetening the trade up. I would probably do it only if we get desperate on the last day. Hopefully they get sensible before then or we find someone else willing to trade. Boughton might scare them hopefully.

Yep sounds ok.

I like it how with Hickey whilst we lost pick 13 we gained 26.

Similar to what we did with Saad and Milera last year.

If only our crew pre Pelchen did this!

Very true, get that done and we look like we get our way despite a few obstacles.

For want of a fair trade the full back was lost.
For want of a full back the match was lost.
For want of a match the ladder position was lost.
For want of a ladder position the double chance was lost.
For want of a double chance the final was lost.
For want of a final the premiership was lost.
And all for the want of a fair trade.

I cant see what Cripps has to do with it really.... the question is really, do we offer 26 for Brown?
It seems we offered 37 and were knocked back....
So will they knock back 26?
Will we offer it?

It is clearly they will offer only 40s for cripps

Spot on, Cripps carries no currency what so ever and this is why I think we will struggle to land Brown... It's purely a trade of draft picks for Brown with Cripps being the set of steak knives.... Thinking our only possible offer will be 25, 47 amd Cripps but I doubt WCE would take that... Key position players don't grow on trees and with Glass getting another year older Brown would be a big part of their futuree

And the worst part about this is that West Coast have f***-all draft picks. They have 41, 61, 62, 81. So if we traded them draft picks we'd be unlikely to get much useful in return. How about:

GIVE: Cripps, 25, 26
GET: Brown, 41

Which leaves us with 41, 46, 47, 77; them with 25, 26, 61, 62. Not a great outcome and still doesn't quite look like enough for them to accept.

Agree. That would be draft suicide.

FFS - As much as we need KPD to lose 25&26 would be disastrous

Get the Ray - Martin trade done, I would rather do that for 1 year then trade 25/26

Surely this takes care of an immediate need but doesn't sell the farm?

if smurf and pelican are so sure on brown (because they know he WILL fill a role, plus seen him play etc etc) then i could prob handle losing pick 26 and cripps

no way in the world would anyone give up 25 and 26 for brown to get back another pick in the 40's
if that happens this bloke must be the biggest superstar running around in the seconds that cant get a game in the firsts...ever!

I think if we don't get Brown, the other option is to Hijack the Cam Pederson deal. Apparently it's on the verge of collapse anyway.

We could offer pick 47.

Pelchen did not give much away on SEN this morning but we will have to come up with something pretty good to get this deal done as Brown a contracted and required player......still talking with them though....

4 picks inside 47 even though 1st currently 25 seen by the selection group as a positive.

They def are still going for it. We will end up with Brown for Cripps and 26 I feel but will not get done until the last minute as they butt heads for a while longer.

The more I think about it I think it will be quite complex & involve 2nd & 3rd round upgrade's for the Eagles.

If it happens I think it will look more like this.

WCE receive Cripps, 26 & 47
Saints receive Brown, 41 & 62

Close but whispers are 49 not 47, with that coming for Ray from Melb. Plus 47 out to Hawks for Gilham

Reckon we could end up like this:

Have: Lee, Hickey, Brown, Gilham 25, 41, 46
Don't have: BJ, Cripps, Ray, 12, 13

Will effectively have changed out flankers/utilities for talls and some pick shuffles.

Hopefully after this year some sanity is restored to the draft and it finally won't be the property of one or two teams (so a first round pick will actually be somewhere from 1 to 18 for everyone).
