Josh Caddy Profile

Post: # 1268821Post fugazi »

From Sun's website:

Sorry if this has been done:

I reckon Pelchen is determined to get him...BJ for Caddy and free cap space up....good move if it works, looks impressive.

The tough midfielder had a rocky first season with groin surgery and a stress fracture in his foot before finally debuting against Melbourne at the MCG in round 23.

A week later against Hawthorn, he shone with 16 disposals and two goals.

A professional young player with leadership qualities who looks to be a star in the making.

An inside ball-winning specialist with a fantastic work rate, Melbourne-raised Josh Caddy was selected at Pick 7 by the GC SUNS at the 2010 National Draft.

Caddy captained Northern Knights in the 2010 TAC Cup competition. He also starred for Vic Metro at this year’s Under 18 National Championships - he averaged 25 possessions, 11 contested possessions and seven clearances per game.

Unsurprisingly he was selected in the Under 18’s All Australian squad.

A powerfully built, tough and courageous midfielder with a superb kick, he may well find himself part of the GC SUNS midfield from the get go in 2012.

Draft history: 2010 NAB AFL Draft 1st round selection (Gold Coast) No. 7 overall.

I reckon he's a long shot.

Caddy sounds like a possible replacement for Lenny when he hangs up the boots but we might struggle to secure him with Geelong also reported to be interested in getting him and having that compo pick up their sleeve for the Ablett departure.

I'm sick of the club being shafted on things like this. The AFL had better look after us and ensure we get good compensation for the loss of Goddard.

And if Geelong cries poor, point to their silverware cabinet. The only reason Geelong had Ablett in the first place was because of a dodgy father-son rule which allowed them access to potential superstars without having to give anything up. Same way they got Scarlett and Hawkins.

We haven't been yet, but let's see how it pans out. If we don't get adequete compensation we ought to raise hell.

Also, we need to know NOW what they compensation is so we can start negotiating.

Its a complete crock that the comp pick for BJ is not known now. The AFL cannot be that incompetent can they? What they are basically saying is yes youve been bent over but we dont want you to have the chance to do the same.

We should get the first round pick, if we don't, i agree that we will be getting shafted.

Silly that they wait untill the free agency period is closed before they tell you what compensation you'll receive. But all teams are in the same situation.
Shouldn't alter our wheeling and dealings. Excited as to what Pelchan has up his sleave.

seeing he is the most high profile player in the FA moves and he is a former number 1 pick I would think it's just in years when similar players all move they can then set compo with some time up their sleeves. This one will be straight forward and we will get pick 13. They are dumb sometimes but this isn't a case of Zac Dawson or a fringe player. He is the only elite talent on the cards for a move.

He's getting $750,000+ for the next 4 years!

How the hell can they assess him at anything less than the highest category :?

hey, hey.....AND? :D

We're not going to start this again ala Ross Lie on are we? How boring.

Giving Goddard up will let us be more agressive in trading. It's not like you don't know that.

I can see the AFL's point of view for once. It is only common sense. If the AFL commit and give us pick 13 now, what is then to stop us from picking up a 10 yr player from another club? They will wait to this period is finished, then give us pick 13 (I hope).

True. But they could say if you don't pick up any FAs we will be giving you pick 13 or thereabouts.

How do we know they haven't told us that already??? I'd bet they have.

For one thing, as I understand it, we can't afford it ... certainly not for someone of equivalent stature in the game as Goddard.

Quite possibly. They only have to tell the club; not the world.

However the stories circulating in the media suggest they haven't:

http://www.couriermail.com.au/sport/afl ... 6486891647

"...The AFL has told the Saints they must wait until the free agency window closes on October 19 as any compensation decision takes in both gains and losses.

If the Saints land a free agent, their compensation may be watered down.

But they would like a definitive answer now about what they would receive for Goddard (right) if the status quo remained, so they can start planning and shopping the pick around...."

Ridiculous situation to have to wait til halfway thru trade period to know what we get.

Simple solution...if we agree to take no-one in FA....we get pick #13, otherwise we wait til the end of FA period.

At least give us that option so we can say to GC pick 13 for Caddy guaranteed

Id like him but it sounds like he is going to the Blues most likely for pick 11 unless Norf or the Cats can throw the GC a very good player...

im under the impression they havent said squat to us
pretty sure the pelican said that in that vid interview

that not knowing 100% the compo pick we'll get for bj is not helping us in trying to throw the pick around to other clubs as trade etc
