Nick Dal highest paid now?

Post: # 1268559Post Con Gorozidis »

So if all the media reports(thats a big 'if' i know) are true then Nicky Dal must now be the highest paid player at the club?

If Roo took a huge cut and BJ has left - that leaves Dal and Roo equal on around $550k as the highest paid players.

Would that be about right?

I think Dal, Joey and Lenny would all be around that mark with Gram, Kosi, Gilbert and Schneider not far behind.

Is Dal a free agent next year? Bombers have been keen on him for years now. :(

I think we are safe on Dal - if the bombres went after him like they have BJ, they would be the only two players they could afford to have at the club besides Hurley and Watson. Jimmy and Fishface would have to pull the boots back on , and they would have to take a blanket around the boundary at half time.....

Clubs will be into Dal big time end of this season IMO.

I'd say he, Fisher and Joey up the top.

Would the club be willing to let anyone else of Dal, Fish, Joey or even Rooey go?

Assuming of course that we haven't re-signed them before the end of the season. Would suggest we are going to be getting far more efficient at that sort of thing if the past week is anything to go on.

from all that he has said, he likes to get contracts out of the way nice and early.

If he delay's he will be gone, but i'd be very surprised. He is a big believer in "they will pay me what i am worth" plus he would be pretty old for FA, not alot of interest in a 1 or 2 year player...

Bombers were mostly into Dal when Sheedy was in charge - if he sends some GWS cash Dal's way we could be in strife.

I don't think Joey's new deal was as high as his previous.

Guys like Chips and Dempster deserve to be up there.

Unfortunately backmen don't seem to get a look in when it comes to salary and awards. Dempster could possibly be one of the lowest paid AA recipients ever. Doubt he would be on anymore than the AFL average.

Is everyone deluded?

It is a brave new world.
No player is going to sign a contract early, unless they are being offered obscene money and terms like Cloke, they are going to wait to see what they are offered on the free market.
Our players will be targetted because we have now shown that we will lowball players to keep our "winning" culture.
And before someone says we didn't lowball we just refused to pay overs, a player is only worth what he can get, BJ got more than we were willing to pay therefore he is worth more than we are willing to pay.
If Essendon front up with 600K for 3 years next year and we only offer 500K for two. Guess what Dal will be a bomber along with his mate BJ.
Get used to it, it is how the system is going to work from now on.
The players association will be pushing for the qualification period to be lowered next and then eventually removed entirely so we have true Free Agency.
