I reckon 550-600 and 4 years would of got it done.

Luckily the club were smart enough not to pay such a silly figure over at least one year to many.

475k for Goddard is quite low IMO
Re: Goddard to Essendon
Perhaps St Kilda will put a final offer to BJ when we have our chance to match Essendon's offer? St Kilda may if fact come back with, say 550k x 4 years and then BJ has to way up whether he takes 2.8m to play for the Bombers or 2.2m to remain a one club player.

Re: Goddard to Essendon
We have to match it to force a trade however BJ can still accept a lower offer from his original club....I think.SaintPav wrote:I thought we had to match it.Old Mate wrote:Perhaps St Kilda will put a final offer to BJ when we have our chance to match Essendon's offer? Re: Goddard to Essendon
Hope he enjoys driving out to Tullamarine every day when the Bummers move there...
Are there any coffee shops in Tullamarine....
I wonder if Essendon throw in a city link pass as a sweetener

I hope he enjoys all the soft tissue injuries that goes with being a Bombers player. The Weapon will sort him out.

if club match he can still choose to go, or if he didn'ty wish to go to club who offered can go to trade/draft
if club don't match he can choose to go or choose to stay.
Ultimately his decision on His worth..

I predicted he was going to stay. I have no predictive/forecasting abilities what so ever.

Apparently it was "gut wrenching" decision......
Not too hard a decision by the looks of it - seeya BJ go enjoy the Hird / Thomson sideshow for yourself, we'll take pick 13 thanks!

Saints offered anywhere between $475 - $633 for 3 years. The 3 year term being the only constant it seems.
Mind you I'll bet that $750 - $800, if true, would be front ended for years 1 & 2, then probably less for 3 & 4

Gut wrenching because he put himself out there and declared his love for the club....Kernal75 wrote:Apparently it was "gut wrenching" decision......

To look a bit of a fool now.
He thought Saints would 'love' him in return.
Good on us, we didn't allow the 'market' to inflate or dictates BJ's value....
I'm sure we'll get big names who'll be happy to settle for less than the FA market dictates in the future just to be in red white and black

The loss of Goddard will pretty much ensure we don't see a flag for many years to come.

Knowing our luck, BJ will be to the Bombers, what Ball became to the PiesThe Fireman wrote:The loss of Goddard will pretty much ensure we don't see a flag for many years to come.

Yep, that's how I see it too. A class player is hard to come by. Just imagine if the Swans lost Ryan O'Keefe when he wanted out. They knew you build premiership teams around players like that.

At what extent does the price become crazy?

different era different rules
He may well have gone under FA .....but it was a time when all parties had to agree to trade.

I think the 4th year and 600 would of got it done, and I'd have been OK with that.
I also think we're delusional if we think the club will land anyone decent without paying overs in the future.
