Malthouse, Goddard and Cloke
What if all three landed at Carlton!!!
BJ grew up a mad Blues supporter.
Malthouse loves Cloke, and seemed to get the best out of him.
Cloke would probably take less money than Freo have offered to play under Mick again. Plus he wouldn't have to move away from Daddy!!!
Plus Carlton have already made offers to BJ and Cloke if you believe what's being said in the media, and I wouldn't put it past Kernahan and his crew to have already approached Mick weeks ago with this idea!!!
It would take a huge amount of trading to fit them both in, but it is a very real possibility.

Re: Malthouse, Goddard and Cloke
Cloke to Carlscum wont necessarily get Malthouse excited, i think if he'd already decided on coaching, that would be the sweetener. It would be highly probable that Malty, BJ and the Greedy One could end up at Visy Park.
Sad to see BJ leave, but if somehow we get a young, big KPP out of it, will make it easier to accept.

if the scum can afford Judd, Murphy, Cloke, and BJ, then the rest of their list must be making rookie wages...
no chance of them getting both, either way, its going to be an expensive year for the Blues....

Cloke as a Blue is win-win. Makes the Filth angry for him leaving, and when he plays poorly in a Blue jumper, upsets the whole Blue army. Have to luv that!

Re: Malthouse, Goddard and Cloke
Either way all the successful clubs don't go wage crazy because it ends in tears. Ball to the Pies on big money means that guys like Cloke, swan and Pendlebury want their share. It's a bad precedent and long term hurts the clubs. i'm glad Scott has seen that as a way towards long term success. If they can find space after paying Millions to guys like that spud freo ruckman that plays reserves for them and then head hunt major stars something is a little fishy.

Re: Malthouse, Goddard and Cloke
The thing is once you lose a quality player like Goddard how do you replace them again. If you're not going to pay top dollar how do we expect to pick up another gun player like Goddard . We won't finish bottom either so we can't pick them up in the draft. There is no point having salary cap money left over . There is so many factors at play . You have the players desire to finish with a premiership , the money on offer, the clubs location (state or suburb for that matter) , facilities, coaches, team mates. So sometimes its out of the clubs control. I'm confident in Pelchans record and I think he has a long term plan. It seems the club is heading in the right direction , unlike a few years ago.
Having said that we want Goddard to knock back larger offers from Freo , gws etc. this would be a great statement to everyone that the stkilda footy club is a great place to be.

I see Greg Swann has categorically ruled out recruitng BJ to Carlton. See the bottom line of the article below re Ratten sacking.

I think Cloke and Mick to Carlton is a serious possibility - As is BJ to Freo.Sainterman wrote:I see Greg Swann has categorically ruled out recruitng BJ to Carlton. See the bottom line of the article below re Ratten sacking.

If we can get Zachary Clarke and a pick around 15 (AFL compo) I guess Ill accept BJ going with sadness but I wont go feral.

We re not talking about trading him to freo, dragit wrote:Freo won't give up anything if he goes via free agency.Con Gorozidis wrote:I think Cloke and Mick to Carlton is a serious possibility - As is BJ to Freo.Sainterman wrote:I see Greg Swann has categorically ruled out recruitng BJ to Carlton. we re talking about him walking to freo as a free agent , which i think means we get nothing.

Re: Malthouse, Goddard and Cloke
I really can't see Goddard moving on. I know the media have raised the anticipation he will, but I personally can't believe it. I can see him getting the captaincy next season and remaining a Saint for his entire career.
The free agency thing does dangle a delicious apple for those players who know it's a relatively short career in a cut-throat/unforgiving industry.
My money would be on Goddard staying. i think some people under-estimate what a team orientated bloke he is. Put it this way, I'd be incredibly surprised if he moves on.

Re: Malthouse, Goddard and Cloke
Thing is he's a chance at a flag with Freo.
They have THAT coach, the Melb monkey off the back and a fine, even list.
Goddard's a chance to go there for more money and play out his last five almost certainly in the upper echelons of the ladder.
He'll get maybe - MAYBE - one more shot at the prize at St K you'd reckon and more than likely on less money.
I hate this time of year.

"The inches we need are everywhere around us. They're in every break in the game. Every minute, every second. On this team we fight for that inch. On this team we tear ourselves and everyone around us to pieces for that inch. We claw with our fingernails for that inch. Because we know when we add up all those inches that's gonna make the f***in' difference between winning and losing! Between living and dying!'

Re: Malthouse, Goddard and Cloke
True Thinline. Tough decision for him. Same work, better money, new prospects. You couldn't blame him if he moved. Loyalty doesn't pay the bills these days and seems a little outdated in a modern world.
