Goddard offer - SEN report

Post: # 1254017Post StPeter »

Dermie reported on SEN that Goddard's management has informed the club that it has received an offer that will be very difficult to refuse.

It may have no alternative but to recommend he accepts it.

He put it to Scotty Watters who wouldn't comment on it.

Hope it is from GWS if that is the case.

But Dermie did quailfy that it was his management Not BJ saying difficult to refuse and BJ has consistently said he wants to stay...
he ( BJ) would be well aware the Saints cannot match any extreme offers.

Dont know it was OK to make an offer while the player was still contracted.

Interesting.

As plugger said, hope it is from GWSydney. Would they give us the General??????? (sarcasm emoticon)

Correct me if. I am wrong, but I thought that because Goddard is a free agent we would not get any compo for him

We will get one for sure. GWS can still pick up to 8 players that are uncontracted. You could be right because of free agency but do GWS get free agency as well as their extra 8 picks. That is the question. Either way we get one pick but will probably get 2 if GWS dont have access to free agency.

Not 100% but if they take him then they can't pinch another St K contracted player

Turns 28 in May and probably will command a salary of $850,000 p/a for three years at GWS - a figure we should not attempt to match. $600k player at the most the way he's been going.

Great player and would love to keep him but not at a stupid price.

Clueless and mediocre petty tyrant.

If he went to GWS, it probably wouldn't be under the free agency rules, I'm sure they would prefer to just add him without giving another club a chance to bid higher, I'm sure it would be under the 'ablett-scully' rules. Either way we would get some compensation and you would think it would be decent considering the money he will be getting.

The stupid thing about how the AFL system works is that hypothetically he could already have agreed to go to another club but won't anounce it until after round 23.

I reckon it would be good if player and club leave on good terms and even give him a farewell game. Should always be welcome back at the club just like Abblet will always be welcome back at Geelong.

See ya.

I have no idea what restricted free agent brings with it...

But the club better screw him to the wall to ensure we get something for it.

His last two seasons suggest that he is not worth the money.

Truth be told he doesn't deserve to captain this football club.

If he goes, he goes. Will just free up room.

The club cant screw BJ at all because of free agency. He can screw us though especially if we are silly enough to match a stupid offer.

My understanding of restricted free agency is

if club (we) match offer he must stay....if we cant match he can go...

unrestricted or free agaent......player can go even if offer is less.

Will be funny to see when/if he leaves, he will suddenly be a downhill skier who had no idea and was best to move him on.

A. Ok so we have his management say it would be hard to refuse. No comment from Bj himself, so could be that he decides against it.
B. Reports earlier this year that it would be highly unlikely that Bj would go to Freo. Also would have thought other than money captaincy would be at the back of his mind not sure that Freo would take it off the super Pav!
C. AFL would give a compensation pick to the club that losses a free agent. Not 100% on whether that would be different if it was GWS.
D. If he wants to go let him, his choice, I would rather someone want to be at the club because that's where they want to be!

To be totally honest he isn't worth $850k a year especially not based on the last 2 years.

I'm sick of getting bent over by Ross Lyon.

f**** the list, then bails because his decisions are gonna make it tough, then picks over the bones.

f*** you Ross...

That said, if he goes anywhere else I wont care :P
