Seriously, does anyone still think he is of any value? He goes back to tagging (a role he was good at a few years ago) and gets mauled by Beams, coughs up the ball whenever he gets it and lets 90% of his attempted tackles slip. Then bizarrely goes to half forward to try to shut down Shaw, followed by Shaw's most influential period in the game. His missed shot at goal from 15m out was painful yet completely predictable.

Occasionally he can still shut down a frontrunning wingman but most of the time we are playing one man down in the middle. He provides absolutely nothing offensively and very little defensively (Dal and Joey have both done better shut down jobs this year). Our team just doesn't benefit from his presence. I'm sure he's a great, hard-working honourable clubman but he isn't close to being an AFL quality footballer. It has however been good to see Gram pull his finger out in recent weeks and lift his intensity at the contest. Unfortunately Jones isn't going to suddenly lift his disposal and decision-making like that. Surely Pelchen's influence will see the likes of Jones, Polo and Peake ousted this off-season with skilled kids given preference.

Sure, his own disposal aint Dals.........but it aint Jone's either who really cant kick.

Jones, great heart and work rate. Hopeless kick and poor judgement and overall awareness. Can shut down opposition players occasionally....but...meh...

I have said this before.

He needs to tag inside, where he can take out an opposition inside mid AND win his own ball.

We don't want him on the outside delivering inside 50, or inside the 50....

Really it should of been Pendlebury or nothing for Jonesy.

Reckon he got alot of the entry late because the mids thought it was Roos blonde head.

Where were the key forwards?
Why weren't they on the forward line to give a marking contest.

So many times we bombed a ball forward to a 1 on 1 - but it was Jones or Milne !!!!!!!

Sure, his own disposal aint Dals.........but it aint Jone's either who really cant kick.

I'd like to see Ray become the designated run-with player with Ledger an addition to the midfield rotations. At the very least Ledger can win the hard ball and get it going our way. The kid has been getting huge stats all year in the VFL, was just about our best player in the pre season matches and has done well in his few stints in the seniors.

Was embarrassing watching Jones on the fwd line. Had absolutely NO IDEA how to position his body. Here's a clue Clint. When running on a lead, don't slow down to take the ball on your chest and let your oppnent run straight past you. Run THROUGH the ball and take it in your hands!!!

this has been going on for 2 seasons... his better games are simply less frequent

great clubman, great heart, but as i've said before he just hurts you with his disposal. He can get away with it against lesser teams but he will always be a liability against the better teams. It just a shame he cant kick. For everyone who has said the umpires cost us the game tonight, not kicking goals from 15 mts out is worse.

Hang on, Jones was no alone in this regard tonight. Jack Stevens might have went on a few runs but he fumbled and turned over the ball many times often without any pressure, particularly in the second quarter.

Ditto for Geary who dropped 5 marks when he had the ball spent without actually having the ball. 4 of these contributed to Collingwood control and 2 goals. Simpkin like Geary had great intent but also caused turnovers to goal.

Dwilt held on many times on forwards and gave away frees. Several resulted in goals.

Gilbert did some pretty good things but also put several othere under the hammer at times.

Loved Dunnel's attack on the ball but he too turned it over more than I would like.

Clean hands disappeared tonight from members from both teams at times. This squandered possession and actually gave Collingwood a big adavantage in the second quarter as they coughed it up less.

Gram tried to dart around players when free only to get caught on a number ofg accasions when he could have just kicked at goal (x 2 times). Ball was then cleared from defence.

Jones was not alone. I thought Jack's ball handling was just as bad.

I thought he was ok and wasn't worth singling out. Gram and gilbert contributed also. They played well enough with kosi the only player to have a negligible impact but he was stiff not to get of couple of frees. They were actually pretty willing I thought and unlucky in the end. Saad was really solid and stood up and added some pace, Jack and Armo while not getting huge numbers were solid contributors. Dunnell is going to be something special I think, just a composed guy in the way Dal used to seem to play slowly but the game was going in slow motion around him. He just knows where to position himself to get the ball. He still reminds me of James Hird you can't work out what makes him good he just is.
