If Goddard was to go? What would you want in return!
I'm a avid Goddard fan have loved watching him over the years for our mighty club. A number one draft pick his pack mark in the grand final against collingwood all magical moments. However since Goddard has played those magical grand final efforts in 2010 he threatened to become mike Sheahans number one player, he has not reached the leafy heights of media expectations nor some of our fans expectations. His behavior has been very selfish of late against Melbourne and just lately against North where he rubbed himself out for two weeks. My question is if Goddard was to leave our club at seasons end what would us supporters members of our club want expect from another club for beloved Goddard???
Re: If Goddard was to go? What would you want in return!
I'd expect the same compensation that the Dogs got for Ward.
If we got the Scully/Ablett compo we'd be stoked I reckon.

2 (extra)picks inside the top 20 and id be happy. if we had 3 picks in the top 25. id be stoked.
we could trade 1 for a player and use 2.

BJ was a number 1 pick and an integral part of our team...I'd demand the same as Scully!#1GILL wrote:I'd expect the same compensation that the Dogs got for Ward.

Re: If Goddard was to go? What would you want in return!
BJ's not going to be traded. He'll either re-sign and stay or he'll sign with another team as a free agent. We have no say in the compensation. I'm not sure whether we're entitled to special compensation if he signs with GWS. If we are, it will be Ablett/Scully territory. If he signs with somebody else, our compensation will be determined by whether we sign anybody else. I believe the best case scenario is an end of the round pick. We're not going to get equal value if he leaves.
Yeah nah pleasing positive

Re: If Goddard was to go? What would you want in return!
I thought the rules were well prescribed by the AFL... e.g. position in BFs etc..... one set of rules for GWS and another for Free Agents....
can't someone look up the rules and compare to Goddard's stats?
I know that the fact he was no. 1 draft pick is irrelevent.... draft pick is only relevent during the first few years (5 I think) after which it is age and performance based.... right?

We should put Ross in charge of negotiations!!!
He did an outstanding job with Ball..... While he is going swimmingly at Freo now, we are still left without rightful compensation for a player.... At least he kept his pride in tact
Hang on, that went out the window 10months ago

A top five draft pick plus 10 million from the afl
or two 1st round draft picks from the club he goes too .
or two 1st round draft picks from the club he goes too .
In red white and black from 73
Re: If Goddard was to go? What would you want in return!
yeah, depends on whether he goes to GWS or as a free agent....
He would fetch a relatively early pick as a free agent (probably mid first round) as this is worked out based on his rank within the AFL....
however if he goes to GWS, he might get us 2 in the first round...
but personally, i doubt he will leave... too old for GWS to chase, and probably only other VIC team that could squeeze him into their cap would be Melbourne... and doubt he'd wanna go their and sit at the bottom of the ladder for the rest of his career

cooney was a number one pick, a brownlow medal winner and is an integral part of the dogs team - so should he attract the same compensation as scully?Life Long Saint wrote:BJ was a number 1 pick and an integral part of our team...I'd demand the same as Scully!

I would consider using him to trade for one of the 17 yr olds. The only way to get a high draft pick type by the look of it.

He can go where he wants. He may not want to go to GWS. He may want to go to freo. He may want to stay. We have no say in it at all. If he does leave it would be better for our club if he went to GWS because we would get 2 picks. Anywhere else will be one pick.

Re: If Goddard was to go? What would you want in return!
He is restricted free agent - if we were not able to match he goes and the AFL works out the compo. As a former No1 draft pick runner up in Norm Smith Medal, and top 5 B & F finisher i would expect at least Scully type compensation , perhaps a 1st rounder and start of 2nd round compensation pick.
I think he will go and trade option be presented to Stkilda involving perhaps 1st round pick and players

Re: If Goddard was to go? What would you want in return!
We have no real currency as far as a trade goes because he's out of contract, if a team can fit him in their salary cap, they dont have to give up anything to sign him. If they sign him as a free agent, the other team won't give up picks or players for nothing, they'll let the AFL compensate us as they see fit. The only way we'll see a trade will be if a team needs to offload players to free up cap space, which would be unlikely to get a fair deal worked out (an intersate gun wanting to come home or similar may get there)
If he decides to leave, we wont get the Scully deal because of the stats involved in determining the compo. But I reckon if you asked the 18 AFL coaches whether they'd want Scully in their side or Goddard, the answer would be obvious....

The best Compensation you can get for free agency is one first round pick. If he was to go its a better option he goes to GWS, where the compo would fall in line with Scully/Ablett as you say.
http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-news/o ... 1uyiy.htmlThe free agency system has five ''bands'' of compensation. The highest-ranked players - who will usually have completed eight years and be ''restricted'' free agents - will bring a return of a first-round pick, the next level is an end of first round pick, the third category is a second-round choice, the fourth is an end of second round, and the last bracket is a third-round pick.
