It's statement time
(no, I'm not talking EOFY)
Now the squad is back to full strength, the guys like Fisher, Schneider, Gwilt have a couple of games under their belt.
Richmond, Freo, Blues, Dogs all lost which suits the Saints.
North would be feeling confident after last week.
Perfect time to make a statement and really put their hand up to own a spot in the eight.
Sure a thrashing would be nice, but I'm talking more those kind of signs like consistent 4 quarter effort, team play, ferocious attack at the ball carrier.

Re: It's statement time
i just want the 4 points
not sure how dogs losing helps us? id like to think we are in in competition with the bummers and we are well clear of the dogs. the dogs are genuine cellar dwellers (have u seen how bad their fwd line is?).
if we are to be contenders we need to win the next 3 in a row. simple as that. if we cant beat nth - bummers- lions we arent good enough to challenge. After round 16 we will know where we stand one way or the other.

Re: It's statement time
I want four things today to happen:
(1) The road not to get flooded getting into Etihad (I driving from the dandenong ranges area!)
(2) The roof not to leak
(3) A win
(4) Roo to play AND magically be fully fit.

Making the top 4 you mean?
Heck, we could only drop one more game for the year to make top 4!!!

Re: It's statement time
I don't mind North winning the pressure has dropped and hopefully they will feel contented with staving off critics for another week.We need to come out hard early and own them so they don't start walking too tall.

Re: It's statement time
As I just said elsewhere, this is an 8 point game. Win today and we are a game plus heaps of percentage ahead of anyone else in the 8.
This gives us a 2 game buffer with 9 weeks to go.

Except for the sanity nothing much has been lost.
Re: It's statement time
Agreed. Second half of the season now, no time to muck around. Most have written us off once again so a smashing of North will be a little reminder of what we're capable of. Watters has seen what he's got so it's time to start getting results.

Re: It's statement time
Be nice if we can actually play a first quarter for a change. That would be a statement.
Poor first quarters is the main reason that we are teetering to be in the 8, rather than being comfortably in the 8.

Re: It's statement time
It would make me sick to lose against north today. They have beaten one decent team in the last ten weeks and people are starting to talk them up. We need to smash them today and put them and their 30 supporters back in their place.

Their 30 made more noise than our 30 today. They wanted it more and so did their supporters.

Re: It's statement time
I think the statement was "please come and beat up on us".
Fairly inept display all round, except by some of the middle tier players like McEvoy,
Schneids, Steven and......
Too many loose Roos breaking ahead of the ball, too many watchers for the Saints.
Full credit to the Roos for their pressure and persistence.
We should have signed up some of those islander-indigenous guys playing at half-time -
they were terrific.
