Ok, long time follower, first time that I've submitted anything, so be gentle guys!

Schneider- creative, excellent kick, good aerobic capacity, good footy brain, coming back from injury, easily in our best 22. But where does he fit into a forward line thats working well and boasts Milne, Milera and Saad?

My answer...it dosen't. But think of two little blokes who started their career up forward that have gone back in their career- Aussie Jones and Brent Guerra who became integral to their team (Guerra unfortunately for the Hawks) in their ability to run and carry out of the back line and actually hit targets going forward.

Could this be the answer? And who's spot could he take? I know Gram cops a fair bit of flack from people anyway, but hey, I reckon the little bloke in number 13 could be a better option for this role.

Played that role in his last year at the Swans so can do it but what we lose is the number of score involvements that Adam has when he plays forward. However I think his creativity and footy brains off half back will be invaluable and will release Gram to a wing where he is most suited.

Another is the SHAW boys both were small forwards and have deleloped into important defenders. They may not go down that path as they may expect Milne to retire at seasons end.

Cripple is the one under pressure. Schneider, milera, Milne and saad can all play in the one team. Milera and Schneider will rotate more in he midfield than the other two who will mostly stay in the forward line

Welcome aussie sainter: I recall what a big jump it is to go from reading other people's stuff to actuallly posting something. You have raised an interesting subject and I hope your post will be the first of many.

I am an admirer of Schneider, but I must disagree with you that he has a particularly good aerobic capacity (at least, it isn't evident when he plays). I think he has always struggled to achieve the elite level of fitness required to play modern AFL, and this was the main reason the Swans got rid of him, after he failed to develop into a midfielder to an extent which would satisfy them. Lyon tried something similar in around 2010, but to no avail.

A few decades ago, when players got more opportunity to rest during games, Schneider's superior ballskills and tackling ability would have made him an absolute gun. But today, when even the ruckmen are increasingly required to run continually from one end of the field to the other, I think Schneider is condemned to play mostly up forward, with periodic bursts in the midfield. He plays this role extremely well but, unfortunately for him, so does Saad and so does Milera. Yes, villasaint might be onto something re Cripps: Milera would probably play Cripps's current role better, and then Schneider could slot into Milera's current role.

But what we saw on Friday night was a midfield that couldn't compete with that of the Tigers: something that doesn't bode well for future contests with the likes of the Cats and the Pies. If Cripps is to go, I'd rather see a toughening of the team over the longer term. When Fisher and Geary come back, perhaps Geary could go more into the middle and Simpkin could generally cover smaller opponents than he has been. Or perhaps Newnes could remain in the team. Or perhaps Raph could come in down back. Those sorts of approaches to toughening up our midfield and defence appeals more to me than having all of Milne, Saad, Schneider and Milera running around at once.

So, in the long run, I would be looking to have only 3 out of Milne, Saad and Schneider in the team. And, ideally, perhaps only one of Gram and Milera as well.

No-one better than him at delivering the ball inside 50 for mine… Rarely wastes a kick, so even a HF playing up the ground could be good, with the other smalls playing deep. I've noticed the speed of Saad causing defenders to completely panic, which generates goals to others…

Love Schneider but disagree about his aerobic capacity as well. It's not great; never has been, never will be.

But he's a tremendous kick and one of our smartest players around the ground.

A transition to a Guerra-type role, especially with Sam Fisher and Sam Gilbert needing to hold down more KPP-like roles, would suit him to a tee in my book.

Could also see him floating up towards the wing and producing a lot of inside-50 balls.

He's absolutely part of our best 22.

The bye will probably save a visit from the general, but honestly, his form has tapered off a little getting caught out far too often and yes, he can find goals but Schnieds is a walk up starter when fit in my eyes. Barriers are up ready for the abuse...

I like him off the backline in principle, but my guess would be that Scott Watters will use him like Collingwood use Didak, Sidebottom, Beames, Ball etc. still a forward or wing but given plenty of scope to run. He has used Milera and Polo in those roles so far and it could suit Schnides well- overcomes the need for elite midfield fitness.

I have no problem with him being caught,it means he is taking the opposition on and will learn in time. I do agree with your comment that it is time for him to be rested - he is starting to look jaded and doesn't seem to have the same zip as he had early on.

Schneider lead the way in 2011 for goal assists, a stat that means his left foot sets up plenty. Get him back ASAP!

Terry is still very young in AFL terms so your idea has merit. How much, we don't know as we are not in the inner sanctum at the club. I'm sure he, along with all the other youngsters/newbies will be monitored by the club !!
