NAB and new rules
Does anyone have any idea of what teams are allowed in terms of bench and rotations in the NAB this year? And are there any new and horrific rules to be trialled?
Cheers

The league will also persist in the NAB Cup with a trial involving the official scorer, with access to video, contributing to scoring decisions, with the possibility of it being introduced for the season proper if successful.
The trial follows a second grand final in three years in which a goal was paid incorrectly.
Other NAB Cup trial rules include
: a nine-point super-goal;
a bench of two interchange and two substitutes;
free kicks against players who drag or hold the ball under an opponent;
free kicks against the last team to dispose of the ball with a kick or a handball before it goes out of bounds, provided no one else touches the ball before it goes out;
and ruckmen not permitted to make contact with their opponent before bounces and throw-ins.
Boundary and goal umpires will also be able to pay free kicks for holding and high contact at stoppages.

I believe that for the NAB cup you get 26 (24+2 subs) players in the first 3 rounds.
In round one between games you can make 3 changes if you play immediately afterwords, and as many changes as you want if you have the long break.
In the final round, you have normal rules , apart from super goals for the Final in order to prepare for the season.

I don't think anybody takes it seriously as a must win comp it's more a matter of how many newies and rookies can we try and practice time for new game plans and structure. I actually like watching it because it's a no lose situation, I don't stress it if we don't get the points.

Agree BB it should be a showcase for the new talent in the AFL. It's always good to see young players getting a shot to show their skills. The real season will lock down on best 22 and clubs will be loathe to take a gamble on untried kids so why not start the year with a fresh crop before the fanatasicm takes over.borderbarry wrote:If they intend only having 4 on the bench it will mean less rookies/new players get a game. I will be disappointed if this is the case, and it will be a stupid move by the AFL.

does anyone remember when order of games was announced last year
or it is as listed?
Cats
Saints
Swans
so by assumption Saints vs cats first , then Saints vs swans, then Cats vs Swans
or has anyone heard different.
BTW games are 20-30 mintues earlier than last year and being a Friday night it will be intersting as to how many make it crowd wise.

whether it's footy or cricket technology use just ruins the game...
why make it more complicated then it needs to be... the umpire's call is final
There are a hundred decisions a game that could go one way or another... sometimes clubs get lucky, sometimes they don't.
Why then put ourselves in a position to say some of them are worthy of being reviewed and some of them are not
The infamous Aussie Jones behind VS Brisbane is a good example. Ppl crap on and on about it costing the lions the game. There was goodness knows how many holding the ball, holding the man, deliberate out of bounds, interference with the marking contests throughout the match, going either way, that could be scrutinesed just as much and influenced the outcome of the game just as much.
Umps call IMO
