JOSH low is another strength and conditoning coach guys, and maxi and hamil will have more mentor type roles as assistants to the line coaches

Does anyone else get really exited now when we sign new coaches, last year when Lyon introduced Berbakov and Kingsley i was like "ok..". Waters however is finding exiting people who are loved and/or extremley experienced. LOVE THAT SH&T!

Or could it be that Michael Nettlefold has wrested control of the place since the departure of our previous coach and is now showing the skills he has to run the place?. Either way, it appears that WE are DOING IT RIGHT !!

For the young players, and some of the older ones who will be playing in our forward line I couldn't think of a better mentor than Hammil.
Expect some pressure and fierce tackling in our forward half next year.
Hey, expect to actually have a forward line next year that scores.

The question on Hamil is whether he has tactical nous

Have always regarded him as a super player, hardworking and a great leader by example and attitude... never saw anything to suggest he was a clever tactician type

That's not to say I've seen anything to suggest otherwise

Either way... am very glad to have him on board... around the 2004 era was when our culture was looking a lot stronger and I'm glad we've got some of these leaders back that helped turn the club around.

If he can establish HIS work ethic as the norm on the troops then any "nous" will be a bonus.

Does any one know if he has worked in the industry since he retired?

MN has been put on notice to lift his game...and really, if he had lost control to RL that in itself would be a concern! The admin team needed and received a nice big kick to get things right!

Am very pleased with these appointments, nice work Saints, turning things back around!

So that leaves three more positions...

Academy Director

Defence Coach

Midfield Specialist coach

Sounds more and more likely that Ayres will get the Academy role, and I would be happy with this. Would love the club to approach Nathan Bassett for the Defence role - he has done an amazing job at Norwood these past couple of years and is one coach that seems too good not to be in the AFL at the moment.

Midfield specialist, I'm not sure. Any players who have recently retired that could be a good fit? Also worth remembering that these are really just development roles - doesn't sound like there is so much focus on tactics or game day roles, so those worried about Hammill really shouldnt be. These guys have to start somewhere. He was a great leader for the club through the last decade, so it is great to see him come back. Also, I do remember the plaudits he got for taking Roo under his wing at the time - really made an effort to teach the younger guys, and it seems that that's what he'll be doing here.

Absolutely fantastic news to wake up to !!! Max's involvement in the backline at Collingwood will be so valuable now and Aarron will bring a bit of much needed Mongrel and physicality to the forward line as well..getting more than a little excited for 2012 now

No, Max is the specialist defence coach.

So we will have:

Defence Coach (General position coach with match day role and tactics, etc)
Defence Specialist Coach (Part time defence coach with focus on development of youth and structures, etc)

This will be the same in each position. So we have one line coach and one specialist coach per position.

This is the same structure as Collingwood. And we are yet to appoint anyone as out full-time defensive line coach.

To quote the Saints press release:

"Hamill and Hudghton have joined as Specialist Coaches, while Josh Low is St Kildaâ€™s new Strength & Conditioning Manager.

As Specialist Coaches, Hamill (Offensive) and Hudghton (Defensive) will work closely with the Line Coaches to mentor players with a focus on specific technical and skill development."
