Both banger and king seem like good people and have served stkilda well. They're of great character and left respectfully. All the best to them

Reckon King is the bigger loss out of the 2.

Yeah, esp with gardi gone. Mcevoy definitely learnt a lot of them in his first few years at the club.
I heard barnes left the bulldogs. Anyone know if he's any food?

Yes. He is a cabbage.

From Official Saints Facebook

[quote]Chief Executive Michael Nettlefold said Robert Harvey’s contribution to the St Kilda Football Club over 25 years has been unparalleled, which made granting his release an extremely difficult decision.

“Robert is, and will always be, welcome at the St Kilda Football Club. He has developed as an assistant coach during his time at St Kilda and there is no reason why Robert can’t realise his ambition to become a senior coach in the future.â€

I'm surprised to read that Kingy is only 32, seems to have been around forever.
Must have been made the Geelong skipper quite young.

Good luck to them both.

Hopefully Banger hasn't mistimed his move and he doesn't miss out on anything special.

Well Done to the Club for letting them both leave without fuss.

It is a classy move, but also, leaves the door wide open.

Very respectful of a true champion!

Club released both from their contracts.

I don't have a problem with it but what the hell is the point of having a contract? They are useless form a clubs point of view. They only protect the individual.

The're a total joke.

King started with Geelong as a 17 year old in 1996 and came to us in 2008 when Geelong lost players due the salary cap. We got a couple of good seasons out of him as a player and he has done a great job as our ruck coach. The improvement in McEvoy's ruck skills last season was remarkable. On top of that he was often able to change the way McEvoy approached opposing ruckmen during games. I reckon the best example of that was against West Coast where McEvoy was slaughtered in the first half but broke even with the Eagles pair after half time by making early body contact with Nic Nat to nullify his leap and staying out of wrestling matches with the stronger Cox. Even Kosi as a second ruckman made a bit more of an impact this season. King was a handy player for us for a couple of seasons and great ruck coach. Not a bad pick up for a sixth round draft pick.

Whilst Banger was a great player, I wasnt too happy with him coming back
To us as an assistant the other year.

Gardy could replace Kingy IMO.

I agree he shouldn't of come back already, but what was he supposed to do?

At that point Ross only managed to secure a player in King, a mate in Berbakov and a Port assistant into his coaching box.

Disappointing to lose Kingy... You'd think that they would be keen to keep Kingsley for some sort of continuity for the players. Gardy would be a fantastic replacement as ruck coach... from all reports he has been a hugely positive influence around the club over the past 4 years (who would have thought that when he was first acquired!)

I'm not fussed about Banger leaving to be honest.

Watters now has the chance to pick his own crew... I like the sounds of Laidley as a senior assistant.

It'll be interesting to see who else is recruited.

I hope he has mistimed his move and misses out on many special things, at least one or two in the next few years.

it is to give the players and staff continuity an certainty. Most contracts are fairly open to breaking, not legally but from the point of view that you don't want to retain people that don't want to stay. I think this is stage managed, Harvey needs experience and Watters will want like most new coaches to bring in his people. A clean slate is sometimes a better starting position than painting over the cracks.

Expected as much.
Harvey is a class act. Time will tell if he has what it takes as an AFL coach.
Disappointed to lose him and Kingy but happy with the club's performance since Lyon's departure.

Smart move on Bangers behalf, how many assistant coaches end up taking the top job when the incumbent coach moves on? ( Buckley and MM being the exception) To football clubs the coaching grass is always greener in another teams coaching box.
