Milney in IR Squad

Post: # 1162298Post Schwarta »

International Rules squad named
Sportal October 14, 2011, 12:09 pm

Coach Rodney Eade has named his squad for the two-Test International Rules Series against Ireland, with James Kelly and Stephen Milne the only current All Australians picked.

With the teams set to clash at Etihad Stadium on October 28 and then again a week later at Gold Coast's Metricon Stadium, Eade has named a 24-man squad stacked with fleet-footed players.

The elder statesman of previous Australian teams, Dustin Fletcher, won't play in this series though because of injury, with Suns ruckman Zac Smith set to don the gloves as goalkeeper thanks in no small part to a junior soccer background.

Fifteen of the AFL clubs are represented by at least one player, including Greater Western Sydney recruit Callan Ward and Melbourne has the most players chosen with four.

But premiers Geelong have only two in James Kelly and David Wojcinski while beaten grand finalists Collingwood have none, with no players chosen from Brisbane or Fremantle either.

The squad also contains just four players with previous senior IR experience, Melbourne skipper Brad Green who is the veteran having played four Tests, as well as his team-mate James Frawley (two), Saint Stephen Milne (two) and Wojcinski (one).

Adelaide pair Richie Douglas and Bernie Vince are among the surprise inclusions along with Richmond duo Shaun Grigg and Jake King and Western Bulldogs defender Easton Wood.
Australian IR squad:
Richard Douglas (Adelaide), James Frawley (Melbourne), Robbie Gray (Port Adelaide), Brad Green (Melbourne), Shaun Grigg (Richmond), James Kelly (Geelong), Jake King (Richmond), Ben McGlynn (Sydney), Trent McKenzie (Gold Coast), Stephen Milne (St Kilda), Angus Monfries (Essendon), Robin Nahas (Richmond), Mark Nicoski (West Coast), Mitch Robinson (Carlton), Liam Shiels (Hawthorn), Zac Smith (Gold Coast), Matthew Suckling (Hawthorn), Andrew Swallow (North Melbourne), Colin Sylvia (Melbourne), Jack Trengove (Melbourne), Bernie Vince (Adelaide), Callan Ward (GWS), David Wojcinski (Geelong), Easton Wood (Western Bulldogs)

In (Brett) Voss we trust.

That's bad news about Milne.

Nothing good come out of that stupid meaningless hybrid game.
Downside is Milne gets injured.

There is no upside.

AFL_PKeane AFL and Australian team management have determined that Colin Sylvia will not join the team for IRS series v Ireland.

AFL_PKeane
It was AFL view that his preparation for series was not appropriate and he should not join the team. Aust squad will now stand at 23 players

What a typical AFL farce.

They try and flog tickets at $30.

As if it's worth more than a H&A match. Joke!

And it's on a one hour delay on channel One.

NFI.
