Think he was just given a rest with the game well in hand.

And it would be a well earned rest given the brilliant year he's had so far.

he was sore- as many were----

officially- still recoving from knock a couple of weeks ago.

I'm guessing that if there is no OBVIOUS player to be subbed - doing badly or injured- then it is a good way to manage time and wee who most can use the break.

I thought that one of the commentators said he was with the medical staff a few times during the game.

Correct, it was Tim Watson. I think Sam went to the rooms just before quarter time. When the quarter ended, we had just two on the bench (apart from the sub).

Sounds as though he was off for precautionary reasons.

Fingers crossed he hasn't sustained anything.

I think that I heard a "glute" muscle (backside) problem, mentioned.

If so, it's associated with bruising, more than "tearing."

Copped Dawson's knee in the butt against WCE, I assumed that was the 'injury'
