Bazza's hanging up the boots
Saw this story in the Herald Sun regarding BBB calling it quits. Journo, Matt Windley, goes on to say that Barry Hall moved to Sydney after 'he was forced out of Moorabbin'....absolute rubbish, I swear there are more and more journos that just won't let the truth get in the way of a good story.

Good luck Baz, you gave us good service but it's a shame you didn't stick around.

would have thought his departure from the Swans was more 'forced out' than his leaving the saints..

Disgraceful stretching of the truth there.
Journalists are far closer to creative writers than anything else these days.
I remember when I was in grade 4 at Berwick Primary School, there was a campaign from the school and local council I believe to get funds for a new campus as it was believed that the current campus was too small to support the growing cohort of students (I disagreed.)
Anyway whilst trying to get attention and some cash from the pollies the school called in all the news crews from 7, 9, 10 and ABC. That day all the students in the school were informed that they weren't allowed to go to the east side of the school during lunch time and recess. So essentially every student in the school was told that they all had to play on the same two basketball courts.
A photographer for the HUN even asked some parents after school if they could take a picture of their child lining up for the toilet, I think the photo had about 12 or 13 children impatiently waiting for their turn to go to the toilet, when one of the parents mentioned that they don't really have to wait in line, the photographer replied with ''The truth doesn't always make for a good story".
I seriously don't understand how an entire industry could completely lack any accountability.
Me and a couple of my mates took matters into our own hands however, we stole all of channel 10's umbrellas, once it started to rain 15 minutes later they didn't hang around for too long.

I'm with you Ralphy. I have some great memories of Baz. I have a fantastic picture of Arryn when he was about 5 and barry @ a family day signed by Barry. And another time when i was able to organise Barry, Heatley, Lowe to make a surprise appearance at a mates birthday about 11 years ago. I wish him well in the futureRalphy wrote:Brilliant Player has had a great career, really nice Bloke as well, one of my favourites at the saints.

A great player for the Saints, but as we know, he had difficulty controlling his anger. Melbourne's blanket media attention did not help things. Nice to read the other Posts about how good he was with Saints supporters.
There is no doubt that his move to Sydney saved him and his career, until he nearly destroyed it again later on. He deserves full marks for resurrecting himself at the Dogs and he will now bow out with his pride and repuation in tact. Good on you Bazza!

Yep, I reckon they fell for the outdated 'we need a big forward to kick all our goals' trick!dragit wrote:Worst thing the dogs ever did…
They went from a very dangerous team of even goal kickers to a mediocre side that was very predictable going forward.
Although Hall kicked a bag of goals, the team overall went from the highest scoring to middle of the road.
There's nothing wrong with having big forward - but in modern footy you can't try to rely on them to kick your score.
Try telling some of our supporters that. We even had a few who said yes to Fev who makes Hall look like Lockett at his best.Johnny Member wrote:Yep, I reckon they fell for the outdated 'we need a big forward to kick all our goals' trick!dragit wrote:Worst thing the dogs ever did…

he was a thug on the field....but looked after the supporters as well.....i remember a preseason game at merimbula on the south coast of nsw against the bears where he stayed out on the ground long after the other players had departed signing autographs for the kids...someone had tocome and get him actually.. ....still a thug on the field though......

I don't have any personal experience with him but…
His stupidity should have cost him a premiership medal, I couldn't imagine a Saints player escaping a suspension because of a technicality in the wording of the charge
What was it…
A punch to the guts 100 metres off the ball was charged as 'behind play' but lawyers argued that it was actually 'within play' so he got off…
Yes I do hold a grudge, similar to the Brown incident where the charge was thrown out because the siren had sounded. Yes I am still very bitter, 2 players that should be a medallion short.
You can bet that the AFL would have recharged either of those incidents had we been involved…

I agree. It was one of the biggest shams in AFL/VFL history that Hall was allowed to take the field for the 2005 Grand Final.dragit wrote:I don't have any personal experience with him but…

I'll probably still be bitter about it until we win a flag

Might be on my own here but I want to see Barry retire so I can see him bash the crap out of someone.
I know its not very social but imagine yourself getting in the ring with this monster. There are certain people that you know not to mess with and I reckon this bloke is one of them.
Maybe he shouldn't get into boxing but maybe some sort of UFC gig.
Bad boys come to Townsville every now and then. Anything goes in the ring. I'll give it a go just to say I have been in the ring with him.
Like F*ck.

When Harvey played his first game in 1988, I was a 12yo wearing short pants and struggling with my readin', writin' and 'rithmetic in grade eight. Now, I'm a father of three and a retired AFL player. And he's still going. Amazing! - Michael Voss

Every nice thaught and good memory I had of Barry Hall disapeared when he sucker punched Matt Maguire.
You can "heat of battle", "brain fade" and "out of character" me all you want but that was an act as low as whale s***. Im not saying im happy he is giving the game away I just wont miss him.
