"Broken heart syndrome"? Give me a spell!!!!!
The GF was LAST year. We are now at round SEVEN in 2011 and I'm sick of hearing about how the players are suffering from "Heartbreak syndrome" or some such psychobabble. The last time I looked nobody had been killed at the G against Collingwood (unless you count our collective hopes!) The latest we are hearing is that its down to "leaked reports" and the like. Time to suck it up! get the phuck over it and start PLAYING SOME FOOTBALL!!!!!

The opposition would be loving us at the moment. We're sitting ducks! Each team can't wait to have a crack at getting over the top of us because we're too busy having a super-huge sook!
In some ways I'm almost happy Lenny Hayes doesn't have to play his guts out this season whilst everyone mopes around feeling sorry for themselves. BJ should be given a holiday also, simply because he deserves it! If i was the captain I'd be dragging every single player into a tightly packed room, eyeballing them, and then asking if they're committed to finishing off what we started! The job isn't over!
Get up, get going, and get the wins on the board to put ourselves back in a contention to challenge for the '11 flag!
There is no bigger, or better time to step up than playing Carlton at home! Those mongrels will be itching to sink in the boot!! Come on SAINTS!!!

When they created LENNY HAYES (in the shadow of Harvs) they forgot to break the mold (again)- hence the Supremely Incredible Jack Steven!!

I think the Jigster is overlooking the tremendous physical and mental effort required from each player for a team to make it to the GF.
Nobody died, but the next worst thing would be to work hard for two seasons, make three GFs, and not win.
If there isn't a psychological impact from that, the players are not human.

Australia...... Live it like we stole it....... Because we did.
I know I've got broken heart syndrome. I feel like a jilted lover, left at the altar one too many times. You can tell me to 'suck it up' but too hard right now.

have to agree. not sure what we are whingeing about. we have shown we can win finals. if anyone should be disenchanted it is the bulldogs. keep going out at pre-lim stage and finishing 3rd or 4th. they have more reason to be depressed than us.thejiggingsaint wrote:The GF was LAST year. Spot on. And its about time the "supporters" stoped bitching and whingeing and supported the boys.GrumpyOne wrote:I think the Jigster is overlooking the tremendous physical and mental effort required from each player for a team to make it to the GF.

Some people have obviously never played the game and don't understand the immense physical and mental pressure, fatigue and commitment that comes with trying to achieve the ultimate goal.

Totally agree. I have no doubt the drawn GF was the final straw as far as wrecking their mental state.Beno88 wrote:Some people have obviously never played the game and don't understand the immense physcial and mental pressure, fatigue and commitment that comes with trying to achieve the ultimate goal.

Dave that's all well and good, and if people were robots then there would not be a problem.thejiggingsaint wrote:The GF was LAST year. However, people are not robots. And there plainly is a problem. We see there is a blunting of the boys' mental edge because we can see it in the way the team is performing.
I'm sure they would like nothing more than to suck it up and get on with the job of playing - footballers are not likely to be into psychobabble either..... however, it is what it is.... labelling as 'psychobabble' people's recognition of the mental scarring that has been inflicted does not explain why it has happened, nor does it offer any potential solutions to it...... guess where the process for finding a solution comes from? Yep, you guessed it, psychobabble.... just the right sort of psychobabble....
Hird... The unflushable one is now... just a turd...

The way some posters put it suggests that the supporters want a flag more than the players do. Rubbish! I would say a premiership means even more to them. They have 10 years or so to achieve the ultimate; at least supporters have a lifetime.
Say what you want about supporters caring more about the club than the players. That's a different argument.
But when people suggest that GF2 was a pathetic effort it implies that the players really couldn't be bothered trying that day. And that is just crap. How many chances does the average AFL player get to play in a premiership team? Things just didn't work out for the team on that Saturday. That's all.
The players are working through whatever issues they're facing at the moment and need our support. And, IMO, they deserve our support.
If people want to accuse me of wearing rose coloured glasses then so be it. I'm comfortable wearing those specs.Â

I think the thing that most supporters are afraid to admit is that we don't have the cattle to take the next step. The players would know it and this is probably what effects them the most. The fact is, even if the same players that played last years GF played to their potential and then some, they know it still wont be good enough. Bring on trying new players and bring on 2012. They are probably heartbroken about the immediate future, not what has happened in the past IMO.plugger66 wrote:Totally agree. Having said that, the current situation wont stop me flying down on a very regular basis to watch them play this year.

What the OP fails to realize is that we are not in the top 5 or 6 teams in the AFL in terms of raw talent. We have made the last 2 GF's on incredible discipline and a very mentally and physically demanding game plan. Even a 5% drop off in intensity was going to find us out. No one could have kept up that sort of effort year in year out

I'm starting to think perhaps the emphasis on extreme roman legion type discipline is a bit exaggerated.BringBackMadDog wrote:What the OP fails to realize is that we are not in the top 5 or 6 teams in the AFL in terms of raw talent. We have players whO are not 5% off the pace, they're in another dimension doing the most face palming pieces of play I've seen since the Tim watson days...eg...Tim elliot, 10m out directly in front....passes backwards to an oppposition player. WHAT.
The program has to be GOT with.
Harden the f*** up syndrome, cant we catch that?
What is dead may never die, but rises again harder and stronger.
Maybe the players have found there IS more to life than football and that life, even if you are a spoilt AFL player is NOT fair and WILL let you down occasionally.

There comes a point in every man's life when he has to say, "Enough is enough." For me, that time is now. I have been dealing with claims that I cheated and had an unfair advantage in <redacted>. Over the past three years, I have been subjected to a <redacted>investigation followed by <redacted> witch hunt. The toll this has taken on my family, and my work for <redacted>and on me leads me to where I am today – finished with this nonsense. (Oops just got a spontaneous errection <unredacted>)

Perhaps take the boys for a stroll through the cancer ward for some perspective. Yep we all get troden on but you get back up. Each week is a new chance to play the game, a chance to appreciate what you've got. Yep they're smacked around a little from the close defeats but where would you rather be as a player in September - in the stands? Maybe a season without any finals action will stiffen a bit of resolve.
I've never seen a bad St.Kilda player - that's just how they are.
I dont understand what that has to do with being mentally stuffed. Who says they feel sorry for themselves they are mantally shot from losing 2 GF's in a row and also drawing one.PJ wrote:Perhaps take the boys for a stroll through the cancer ward for some perspective.
