so says the umpire aftr tambling hits schneider hight.... no free kick.
Couple of days later and tambling is up for a week for the hit.
Are the ump just making things up these days?

Yet I have not heard the umpires boss come out and say it was a error. They apologised to the swans over the mistake that cost them a goal. They clarified the disgrace that was the joey OTB against the lions.plugger66 wrote:I think it called an error just like our bloody players keep making.Solar wrote:so says the umpire aftr tambling hits schneider hight.... no free kick.

Pretty sure it would be very boring if they came out for every single mistake.Solar wrote:Yet I have not heard the umpires boss come out and say it was a error. The less we hear from Geishen the better. No need for an apology from the AFL. A resignation will suffice.

That's not what the umpire said...If he didn't see it then he should have stated that...All the players know that umpires are not omnipresent.saintsRrising wrote:While technically true, if the umpire does not see it properly...then he does not see it.Enrico_Misso wrote:If it deserves to be a suspension then it deserved a free kick!
Which is the advantage of the video reviews.
TBH, I'd rather hear more of that than have a guess at what happened and pay a free that isn't there.
The umpire in this case said that there was nothing in it...Clearly wrong and should have been a free kick...or a 50m penalty in this case because we had the ball.

100% spot on. When Schneids grabs his head the umps automatically assume there was no contact. Fair enough: Paul Roos drilled the Swans to play this way and the umps got sick of it, as they should.Moods wrote:Schneid's has been his own worst enemy over the years. Yes, a free and a suspension were actually there this time (although Schneider clearly hammed it up a bit).
But, personally, I despise Schneider's antics: staging for frees, clapping the umps, etc. I actually think that sort of stuff is a bigger blight on the game than the occasional head-high contact. Staging has had an extremely detrimental effect on soccer and I applaud the AFL's somewhat belated efforts to stamp it out.

I totally agree - but then Monfries and Chapman keep getting frees every week for the most blatant staging and diving imaginable!!meher baba wrote: I actually think that sort of stuff is a bigger blight on the game than the occasional head-high contact. Monfries is disgusting!
agreed, missig the logic where the AFL is clamping down? If the umpire thought it was staging why did he not make a report when tambling was reported.Johnny Member wrote:I totally agree - but then Monfries and Chapman keep getting frees every week for the most blatant staging and diving imaginable!!meher baba wrote: I actually think that sort of stuff is a bigger blight on the game than the occasional head-high contact. There is a big problem here, week after week players play for frees and get them, schneider gets belted in the head, the guy gets a week and the umpire after seeing it says "there is nothing in it"..... thankgod this umpire is not in charge of peoples lives!

The umpire's comment was stupid and inexcusable. But let's not get carried away about it all. Schneider did not seem to be seriously injured. I don't think it's that big a deal TBH.Solar wrote:agreed, missig the logic where the AFL is clamping down? schneider's reputation is one of many in a series of unfortunate events that saw the 09 flag blow away in the breeze.Moods wrote:Schneid's has been his own worst enemy over the years.
