Is this genuine?

Watching this on e-Bay.
Looks like it might be one of the 20 medallions the club presented to the 66 premiership players.

OR
it could be any old commemorative medal.
Does anyone know?

Interesting. It looks genuine to me.

It might be worth letting the Saints HQ know about this. We have a "museum/memorabilia" facility at Moorabbin.

Watch and if they don't get over $1,000 and it doesn't sell, then a call to the Club would still be worthwhile next week.

Is it a player's medalion or a commemorative item that was sold via a sports store back in the day? One would think if it were issued to a player ( I've never heard of such a medal issued) it would have his name on it? Kind of expensive...

Followed up with Georgie Day from the Saints Museum today about this.
It's still on e-bay.

As others have suggested, it's likely to be a "memento," not a VFL Medallion. She checked with The Cowboy, who doesn't have one.

Georgie says that they have an enormous amount of "memorabilia" at Morrabbin, but don't have enough funds to showcase it properly.

For $10.00 each, you can join the Saints Heritage Museum - you get a Badge and a quarterly Newsletter. For any donations and/or information, email "georgied@saints.com.au :)

I can shed some light on this. I had one some years ago I bought off someone on Ebay and sold it to make a tidy profit.

It is as correctly stated in the thread, a souvenir brought out for the 66 premiership. At the time there was discussion on the board here with some saying it may have been brought out as late at the early 80's.

It certainly was never presented to the players, simply an opportunity for the supporters to have a momento. They do not appear very often and i would hazard a guess now worth around $350+ to someone who actually wants it.

Before the AFL tightened their rules on producing AFL products (through high licensing fees), it was for a long time pretty much an unregulated marked. Hence many hundreds of products which have since disappeared came onto the market. This is simply one of them.
