All time "favourite" Saints 22

Post: # 1035380Post Con Gorozidis »

I thought it might be fun to pick your favourite all-time-saints 22.
And by favourite I mean favourite - not best. You might have loved a player because of his hair, the way they ran or you just thought they had a funny name. Anything. they could have been hopeless but you had a softspot for them for any old reason or maybe no good reason at all. Maybe they did something off-field or because you knew them for primary school. It doesnt matter what you like them for. If you like em , you like em!

Ill have first crack:

J Dunne M Hudghton R Jeffrey
D Grant R Elphinstone S Fisher
N Winmar G Burns G Cunningham
D Kickett S Leowe A Hammil
F Gherig T Lockett B Duperouzel

Rucks
C Ditterich L Hayes T Antrobus

Int:
A Jones, D Greig, R Muir, C Devonport

Funny thing is that I HATED Silvio when he was a swan!!! Really HATED!!!
But I thought his celebrations were just great with the Saints!

And I was really disappointed that O'Donnell chose cricket but I soon forgave him when he was making runs and taking wickets for the Aussies.

i just remembered phil narkle. deserved a spot for his crash helmet and nickname. I cant find any online but I definitely remember when he wore the massive crash helmet with saints colours.

i felt the same about foshi - hated him at the swans. loved him at the saints. great celebrations.

Can I add a couple of fave players? OK I will anyway!

Lazar Vidovic
Frank Coghlan

honorable mentions to Dean Greig, Gilbert McAdam and Spud.

Obviously not in chronological order!

Not gonna bother putting a team together as no doubt I'll then realise I've left out several guys who simply must be there.

For me, apart from the obvious ones who would be in everyone's lists, George Young must be there and Cowboy Neal must be there.

And a little out of left field would be Gary Lofts. Just loved watching him back in the early days. :)

I obviously missed the rule that said exclude all players from our first 80 years including Premiership players, Brownlow medalists, multiple club champions/goalkickers etc.

It's a tread on 'favourite players' not 'best players' Sure, young posters are going to post 'favouite players' from modern days not best players, brownlow medalists, premiership players etc etc from the dark days. In fact all posters will post their 'favourite players' not just premiership players, club champions, brownlow medalists etc etc.

Stop trying to force posters to make their favourite players to be the same old sterotype best St Kilda players

In fact my favorite players are Lance Oswald, Billy Stephenson, Trevor Barker, George Young and Harold Bray but I am not upset when other contributors say Silvo Facino, Tony Lockett and Lenny Hayes.

It's a personal opinion NOT YOUR OPINION!

From about 1994 onwards - and heavily skewed toward post 2000 as thats where my best memories are (1985 born if that helps)

B: Baker Hughton SFisher
HB: AJones Maguire Goddard
C: Winmar Burke Montagna
HF: Riewoldt Loewe Hamill
F: Milne Lockett McAdam
R: Everitt Harvey Dal Santo

Int: Sziller Koschitzke Schneider Peckett

Just a few reasons for the bench....
Kosi & Schneids I played juniors against in cricket and footy
Sziller was the first sticker I got out of an AFL cards pack and had pride of place on my hand made wooden pencil case in primary school
& Everyone loves FANKIE
