Post: # 1027931Post backit »

our first rookie draft pick is Thomas Curren, there seems to be no information on him, does anyone know anything?

I think he's a full forward from oakleigh chargers.

There's 2 Tom Currens running around. Did we pick up the 178cm one?

Tom Curren from Stingrays averaged 18 touches, 1.9 tackles and 1.1 goals per game. Midfielder.

Two Tom Lynches, two Tom Currens!

Now you've really confused things

From linked story:

http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/d ... 5844451689

"Stingrays squad: Jake Greeley (170, 65kg, Chelsea), Luke Parker (182, 82, Langwarrin), Lachlan Wallace (175, 69, Frankston YCW), Robert Hill (182, 76, Rowville), Tom Curren (178, 75, Mt Eliza)..."

Hope the Saints called out the one they intended to

so this year we've drafted:

ferguson: 189cm
siposs: 188cm
polo: 187cm
gamble: 184cm
andreoli: 183cm
cripps: 183cm
eddy: 182cm
crocker: 178cm
curren: 178cm
ledger: 178cm

average height of all of our draftees: 183cm

it's pretty impressive to get 10 players at an average height of about 7cm smaller than the afl average of about 190cm!

also, we lost three of our six tallest players in mcgrath, king and gaertner. do our coaching staff think that the sub rule is going to change the game significantly? or are we just redressing the balance from the last few years of drafting talls?

from bigfooty:
"Very keen on Tom Curran from stingrays.
I believe he will go in the first round in the rookie draft.
Great 'silky skills' inside midfielder. Gone under the radar due to injuries (2009) and school footy 2010. "

One of Arryn's teammates. Looking up the Stingrays' match reports, I didn't see him named in the best in the few games I looked at.

One of Ross's Moneyball speculations, no doubt...

I just hope the Saints didn't draft him for his athleticism. The waves of scorn that will emanate from this forum will be unbearable.

Look at '08.

Simpkin 191cm
Cahill 192cm
Lynch 192cm
Stanley 200cm

And '09.

Walsh 195cm
Johnson 191cm
Winmar 189cm
Archer 193cm

I'd call it redressing the balance.

Good pickup Inkersaint....

Ross made it clear they recruited talls the two years prior to the new teams coming in...with a mind to take midfielders this year hoping that some good ones would slip further down given GC and GWS will be looking for KPP's.

Does anyone have any info on our first round selection smokey. Rob Curren?

Great pick up, selfless tough inside mid who will feed all your runners all day long. Great skills and can kick goals.

Played school footy last year with TPS and a handfull of games with the Stingrays. Small about 178cm but strong build.

His name

I wouldn't list a 189cm player as a tall...

is Blake a tall
is Goddard a tall

The cupboard is a bit bare....may Gaertner hasn't gone.....

How many defenders will The Saints pick in the 2024 draft ?

Firstly... I wasn't addressing your criteria.

Secondly... have you considered the possibility that the 18/19 year olds may still be growing?

I think we have ample around that height...BJ, Sam, Gilbert, Demptser, Raph, Blake, Simpkin, Lynch, Walsh...

But pacey smalls to mediums with good footskills was an area we were lacking in.

That plus Lovett not working out.

Yes mate, I think Winmar is up over 190 now too.

On another note, a friend who scouts VFL for an opposition club reckons that Cripps is a great get at #24, could be in our best 22 by the end of next season.
