What is your proudest Saints moment?

I'll start with mine, which is a little, ok a lot, left of centre. But the moment that stands out for me was at a U2 gig at the then Telstra Dome. Standing on the turf of our home ground (at least playing wise) listening to the band belt our the Saints are Coming was something that really gave me the goosebumps.

So what was your proudest moment as a Saints supporter, can be related to a moment in a match, such a Kozi giving the thumbs up, or BJ's mark, or anything that made you sit up and say, I'm glad I love those mighty Sainters!!

ST KILDA has prevailed by eight points after a titanic struggle against Port Adelaide at Telstra Dome on Sunday.

The Power held the largest lead of the match at 21 points 10 minutes into the third quarter, but the Saints managed to hang tough and grind out an important 14.17 (101) to 14.9 (93) win that sees them move back into the top eight.

The match was in the balance right up until the final siren with a goal to Shaun Burgoyne making it a seven-point ball game with just two and a half minutes left on the clock.

Some courageous acts at key moments of the last quarter helped St Kilda get the points with Nick Riewoldt taking an inspirational mark running with the flight of the ball and then booting his third goal.

Luke Ball was equally courageous in flying into a contest that saw Jason Gram kick the winner, but he may have paid a high price as he was carried from the field with a leg injury directly after.

Robert Harvey played his 376th AFL match gathered 18 possessions, but may not remember much of the match after he was driven into the turf in a Jacob Surjan tackle in the third quarter.

In typical fashion, the Saints’ champion returned to the field 18 minutes into the last quarter to a hero’s reception from the home crowd.

Gram was the major possession winner for the Saints with 34, Leigh Montagna (28) and Ball (16 possessions and 14 tackles) were also prominent.

There have been many very memorable occassions over the years. From games to functions and meeting players. But I think Saturday morning before that GF last year would be up there. A big group of us met for breakfast at Fed Square and did the march to the MCG. Everyone was singing and so happy. We had just had the best season in the history of the club and expectations were high. Pre game entertainment was just full of happiness and excitement. I had an absolute blast, how could it go so terribly wrong

Listening to the game, driving to Rochester in my old HX Kingy and The Saints beat Carlton (who I think only lost 2 games that season and went on to win the GF)

I was so pumped when the siren sounded, started tooting the horn in celebration, then....BANG, I blew a back tyre and the spare was flat. Bitter sweet kind of day really

Top moments:
Watching the players go through the GF Parade last year. I was so used to this day being about 2 other teams, it was unreal watching them and realizing this was my beloved Saints who had made it to the big stage.

Beating Geelong Rd 14 last year was awesome, particularly because I still felt like they were the #1 team and to actually beat them in a cracking blockbuster had me (unfortunately now) believing we were the real deal and could go all the way.

Beating Brisbane in 2003 when they were the reigning premiers and a far superior outfit, they were probably the best team i've ever seen - still to this day. Beating them was simply amazing and was an early sign of things to come.

Being able to watch the likes of Nick Riewoldt and Brendon Goddard start out their careers and progress to where they are now has been a privlidge.
Growing up over the years with Stevie Milne as my favourite player has also been a personal highlight. It's been one colourful and unique journey and he provided me with a lot of entertainment and enjoyment on and off the field at a time when I didn't have much else. I'll always remember and be thankful for that.

So there's a few, geez I hope there's one around the corner to top the rest of these off. I pray the window still has a bit of space left.

1997 Grand Final ( my first ) lucky last minute ticket for a seat in the members after flying in from Sydney, surrounded by Adelaide and non Saints supporters. The chance at the MCG to sing loud and proud with thousands of other saints supporters "Waltzing Matilda, C'MON STKILDA"
It still to this day sends shivers up my spine and a brings tear to my eye.

It's by no means my proudest moment, as there's far too many to chose from, but...

...the gutsy decision to admit we got it wrong and to give Malcom Blight the boot, even though he was an AFL legend and we knew we'd cop heaps.

That made me proud!

It may be that it is so recent in my memory that makes it hard to go past, but

2010 first final v Geelong.

Late in the season when we lost to Essendon I had a feeling that we'd come up against Geelong in the first final, and we'd be underdogs, and we'd win. That was such a mammoth game, we were $2.50 underdogs and it unfolded. Probably my best feeling at the footy ever. Then knowing there were so many more finals to be played after that Friday night and that we were already in the Prelim was fantastic.

Although preseason premierships are worth little these days, back then every side fielded a full strength team and wanted to win. A preseason cup was highly rated. At that stage of my life I'd only seen St.Kilda play in three finals over a long period. I'd known losing to be the norm.

That balmy night at Waverley we went in gross underdogs, playing the reigning premiers who had lost just three matches in 18 months. 70,000 odd packed Waverley and the usually outnumbered saints faithful turned the tables and outnumbered Carlton fans about 10 to 1.

We dominated the first quarter and then the rest of the match. The atmosphere was amazing, I'd never seen so many smiling Saints fans at a game. Then when the final siren went the ground was flooded with ecstatic supporters. It was a moment I'll never forget, my Saints had made a Grand Final (albeit preseason) and thrashed a superpower of the competition.

Rediscovered some old VHS videos in the shed recently, and amongst them was the '96 pre season Grandfinal.

I showed the last five minutes of it to my daughters, so as they could see the long awaited reaction from the Saints' faithful when the final siren sounded which broke a long, long drought of failure, and pure ecstasy that ended up overflowing onto the ground as we'd finally won some silverware and got to see a cup held aloft by the Captains of OUR club.

I remember singing our song arm in arm, with Fellow Sainters that I didn't even know, as we marched triumphantly to the carpark.

My girls were blown away that a Night Premiership could mean so much, seeing how we'd won a couple through the '00s which were kind of Ho Hum and already forgotten about.

Just the look on Trevor Barker's face after that Ansett Cup premiership was enough for me. He had tears streaming down his face with a massive grin. I was proud to be a saints man then - and still am now.

Neil Elvis Winmar lifts his jumper to the feral filth hoardes providing one of the most iconic images in Australian sporting history. There will no doubt be some debate over whether this was a great "Saints' memory..or should be remembered more as an act of individual brilliance.... but I don't really care, I was so proud to be a Sainter that day.

Cousins wedding meant i missed that but had the earphones in at the reception, as an early teen, couldn't quite upset family the way i do nowadays and wasn't allowed to go. With our track record, any premiership means a lot and that was no exception!

2. Maxxie After the heartbreaking loss to the Dogs in 2000. I could feel his pain deep down.

I'm glad someone else raised the 1995 game against Carlton at Waverley where at one stage it looked like the Blues would only kick one goal for the game...they ended up with 3 but we well and truly pulled their pants down that day. It was one of only 2 losses the Blues had for the whole season.

I loved the game at Moorabbin in 1991 when Plugger and Winmar returned after long absences for the game against Adelaide. From the first bounce, Harvey fed it to Lockett who goaled and he went on to get 12 that day. We flogged the Crows by 131 pts for the club's greatest every winning margin (since broken against Brisbane when Milney slotted 11.0).

this is more of my more recent memorable moments:

The first one is an odd one, but Round 9 2004 vs West Coast...we won by 101 points and Guerra kick 7. I have never forgetten the Saints chants going around the ground, we were very loud!!

The second one: Milnes 11 goals agaisnt Brisbane round 22 2005, we destroyed them.

The third one: 2009 Prelim win agaisnt the dogs, Nick Riewoldts last minute toe poke and the footage of him after the siren throwing his powerade away and jumping up and down.

Harves got us over the line with his inspirational performance and the boys responded to the Champion like a Champion TEAM!!!
The bus drive home to Moorabbin from Adelaide was another source of enjoyment! (such a change from the previous finals visit to Adelaide!)
