Recruiting
Recruiting staff must lift their game, recent history does not look good
2009 traded for Lovett
2008 Lynch (13) over looked Beams & Hannebery
2007 McEvoy (9) over looked Rioli & Taylor
2006 Armitage (9) over looked Riewoldt & Dawes
2005 traded for Fergus Watts
2004 Mc Qualter (17) over looked Lecras & Van Berlo
2003 Clarke (8) over looked Mundy & Chaplin
mostly not contributing a lot, but with the players over looked we would have a handy outfit

FFS...Give it a rest...
Hind-sight drafting is the easiest game in town.
How many threads do we need on our drafting history?
I also note that you don't have a ruckmen in the players that we should have taken...Where is your succession plan for Gardiner if we didn't take McEvoy? And who is to say that he won't be a good player for us? He is still a kid. How many ruckmen set the world alight at 20?
So, genius, tell us who we should be drafting with our fist pick this year instead of telling us who we missed six years ago!

I have been critical of Ross Lyon saying he was a bad development coach.
However after seeing a recent presentation (courtesy of the pies) - i think its not lyons fault but an organisational issue at the saints:
Saints recruiting/List development expenses in 2009 was $480,000 (13th in AFL)
Pies was $1.2 m (2nd in AFL)

I think we should re-visit who we did and didn't take in the 2008 Draft at this time next year !!saintlee wrote:McEvoy has been a good pickup. Not many ruckman play AFL level games at his age. And he is only getting better.
Also, too early to tell with Lynch. Give him another couple of years, then you can start to make judgements.
NEW scarf signature (hopefully with correct spelling) will be here as soon as it arrives !!
3 years in the system by then. Thats still pretty early to make judgements in most cases. Especially when we've had such a strong team for the past 5-6 years. But yes, I would expect him to come on a bit next year or will be disappointed.Eastern wrote:I think we should re-visit who we did and didn't take in the 2008 Draft at this time next year !!saintlee wrote:McEvoy has been a good pickup. Maybe he was going to throw Beams in as a ruckman as he seems prepared to have a go at anything ...

But is Beams a genuine ruckman or is he only good as "third man up"?
