Nice work from Ross the Boss, sticks up for his team and says no more than is needed.

Didn't read it like that. Bomber never really had a crack in the first place. Was just trying to get an edge with the umpires for his players. Ross played that game today as well. All just mid week, pre-match entertainment for supporters and the media.

Speaking of which, do we know who (midget whistle blowers) we have Friday yet?

Yeah, that's what I meant. Put him back in his place in terms of taking away the advantage he was seeking with the umpires. Well played.

As long as it's not McBurney (#3).

I might actually get on a plan to Poland if he umpires.

Fingers crossed for Razor Ray ... gave us a pretty fair run in the finals last year.

Riewoldt's received chop of the arms is the biggest 50/50 of any rule application in the game on one player.

Feels good having the most awesome coach in the league.

But he's right.

Fair enough, if Baker does something illegal ping him.

But Ling MUST get pinged for holding Dal Santo.
Scarlett must get pinged for holding Riewoldt.

Be consistent or just swallow your damn whistle and call play on.

Ross is more than capable to match it in a serve and volley game with Bomber.

Best part of that story

Lyon said defender Sam Fisher and forward Stephen Milne, a late withdrawal last weekend, would join a closed session at the MCG tomorrow and be ready to play against the Cats.

Sounded much the same as Mark Thompson yesterday. Both said what they should have said. RL will be criticised on the Cats forum as MT was here yesterday but we all know both can coach.

The last time "sh1t lips" tried that tactic was before the 2004 Wizard Cup final, lets hope for the same result.

"...If there has been one recurring theme through this whole shocking mess, it has been the misguided, inflated egos and their ill-judged determination to cling to long-standing old boy friendships. The bad advice that has guided the selfish and culpable James Hird has not only punctuated this saga but symbolised it..."

Personally, while I get the gist (and agree) and I applaud his spirit, I thought the way he expressed himself was a bit like someone who speaks English as a second language...

"The inches we need are everywhere around us. They're in every break in the game. Every minute, every second. On this team we fight for that inch. On this team we tear ourselves and everyone around us to pieces for that inch. We claw with our fingernails for that inch. Because we know when we add up all those inches that's gonna make the f***in' difference between winning and losing! Between living and dying!'

Don't agree. Bomber Thompson didn't need to say it in the first place. Once he did Ross was obligated to come out and reply. It goes without saying that the umpy's will be watching Bakes and SJ, and to me it smacked of sooking. Actually to me he made it sound like he was a bit worried about Bakes - almost like an over protective father with his son. I didn't see the context in which it was said, but I reckon he made himself (and Stevie J) look a bit foolish.

AS with Malthouse - just because he can coach, doesn't mean he isn't a tool.

Funny after listening to what he said it made complete sense. Had the umpires given a free early to either player we would have probably had Baker for the last 9 weeks.

I actually agree with you. Bomber was quoted out of context by all and sundry yesterday and I made mention of it in another thread.

If people were to actually listen to his interview, he did not say he wanted protection for SJ, he said the umpires should have acted earlier as it should never have gone as far as it did. Made reference to finals being important and teams could not afford to lose players. The rest was just fodder for fans and the media prior to a big final.

Loved the read. Great response. Great news about Fisher too, if it's true
