He is great as the last line in defence, he quite often gets handballed the ball when the side is most under pressure, and cooly and calmly gets it out of most situations.
Ooops - I'll move this from the "Votes" page.
Apart from one glaring error Gwilt was an absolute "General"
across the back-line. Beautiful kicking all afternoon. Always in with a spoil. Always near his man.
Always the last in any chain of
defensive handballs, and then knew what to do with it.

There would be one disposal he would like to have again
The rest of Australia can wander mask-free, socialise, eat out, no curfews, no zoning, no police rings of steel, no illogical inconsistent rules.

I think my keyboard is toast, typing worng or no keys: i love the fro always have, can win us a flag off his own boot and i hope he does but today he was good not exceptional..
Without a doubt the most improved player on our list.
He was our club's (and I sheepishly put my hand up too) whipping boy along with Raph Clarke, who has also improved tremendously bar injuries as well.
Now whenever he gets it, I feel pretty much at ease and confident that he will at least try something, run, create and know he will either beat his opponent one on one, bring the ball to ground, punch it over the boundary line, but rarely gets beaten.
Hopefully, other supporters have been able to pay the guy his dues because he has really deserved it!

Just looking forward to us having a real crack each week, and appreciating the younger talent coming through.
With Raph and Bakes out of the defensive mix the steady development of James G. has been very timely indeed. He is fast becoming - already is a vital backline and linking defender. He seems to be applying his natural poise and strength more often at vital times of the game. My general impression over the last month or so is that James Gwilt is becoming more and more important to team success the more he plays. I think Sam Fisher, Gilbert and Blake collectively need an up and coming player similar to themselves to share the load. Zac was doing it last year but with him out of sorts @ the moment and Bj having to try and keep delivering the ball up front the great and ever improving form of Gwilt really fills out the team beautifully. Personally i hope he doesn't let anyone take his spot from here on in- as much as i'd like to see Zac push ahead for selection too.
Go Jim G!
GO SAINTS!
The boy can play and we can build a defence around him that will have respect.
