Interesting stat shared by Lovett and Peake...
... they were their respective clubs' 4th highest goalkickers last year.
I have to admit being very disappointed by Lovett's turn of circumstance. Haven't really held Peake's recruitment in much regard until I discovered that little stat.

Amitage likes to kick a goal - has done frequently. Peake will need to knuckle down and become a top AFL player in a good side. Gram needs to kick more and I am sure Goddard will be placed in more dangerous attacking positions just for that reason.
I want to stand for something. I'm a loyal person and I think at the end of my career it will be great to look back and know that I'm a St Kilda person for life.

Re: Interesting stat shared by Lovett and Peake...
Personally I am of the view that both Lovett and Peake were taken with a similar role in mind and the expectation that at least one of them could become a regular first 22 player for us. Neither were certainties when recruited as both had question marks hanging over them.InkerSaint wrote:.

The role being a pacey player that can break the lines and kick goals.
Lovett was obviously judged as being the more likely. However Peake could well be our Farren Ray of 2010.

That's also what I'm hoping....that he really feels at home with the Saints and blossoms accordinglysaintsRrising wrote:However Peake could well be our Farren Ray of 2010.InkerSaint wrote:.

I would look for Armo/Steven to replace Ball
and for Peake to take Eddies spot.
Geary will be sniffing about.
With no clear third fowrd (Tommy is a chance for later in the year) to have players rotating through HF and the midfield that can snag goals will be valuable.
Lovett, Peake, Armo and Steven are all likelies...though Lovett my not get to play for us.

From what one hears Peake has settled in very well.SainterK wrote:

Me too, or better. His old man was a great player for WA, did OK for the Cats too, I'm hoping he grabs the new chance and really kicks on this year. In a way, it's kinda nice that he's kept out of the lime-light, as I think he'll be a pleasant surprise for a few fans this year (especially the ones that instantly labelled him a dud the very second we drafted him).SainterK wrote:That's also what I'm hoping....that he really feels at home with the Saints and blossoms accordinglysaintsRrising wrote:However Peake could well be our Farren Ray of 2010.InkerSaint wrote:.

I took the kids to the Saints clinic in WA last Saturday, and of the players there Brett Peake was one that impressed me the most. From the interaction with the kids, and his openness to chat to fans and most of all in the way he was embraced by the saints players there.
As Saint Bev indicated in a previous post its great to see the way that the players gel with each other and Peake was certainly well supported by the other players present.
I certainly will be one to get on Brett Peake early for a spot in the 22. I think he'll have a cracker of a season.

Yes, and my dog's great with kids too. But I think Peake's shown enough in the past to prove that the lineage is there and he's a good player...besides, how did Pav go last year? Would you knock him back as a recruit?StNoodles wrote:Freo kicked about 20 goals for the season. I wouldn't get too excited.

Misleading stat?
Chew on this... Riewoldt, Koschitzke and Milne have been top 4 goalscorers in the last 3 years - whether the Saints finished 1st, 4th, or 9th.
I'd suggest that a good performance in a poor team is a good performance, full stop.

True. But Peake has it all before him - he has a chance to step up to the big league. He has shown nothing to date. It is now his time.InkerSaint wrote:Misleading stat?

Not sure what I'm supposed to be chewing on exactly.InkerSaint wrote:Misleading stat?

Peake kicked 14 goals for the season.
I don't think that, coupled with the fact only three Freo players kicked more than 14 goals, is reason for great excitement.
St Kilda's 4th leading goal scorer, Schneider, kicked 34. If Peake's numbers were similar I would be excited.

When Matthew Pavlich's goal tally goes from 72, 67, to 28 and he's still the team's highest goalkicker you know a team's got problems. I don't think the actual number counts for much.

Yeah, but it's not about "top 4 goalscorers" exactly, it's about fourth specifically.InkerSaint wrote:Chew on this... Riewoldt, Koschitzke and Milne have been top 4 goalscorers in the last 3 years - whether the Saints finished 1st, 4th, or 9th.
Fourth highest goal-scorer for St Kilda:
2009: Schneider (34)
2008: Schneider (28)
2007: Koschitzke (26)
2006: Harvey (18)
2005: Koschitzke (24)
2004: Guerra (29)
2003: Hamill (21)
2002: Loewe (17)
2001: Milne (27)
2000: Heatley (15)
1999: Loewe (22)
1998: Jones (23)
1997: Winmar (27)
1996: Smith (22)
1995: Winmar (21)
Interesting that on that list Harvey, Jones and Winmar are the only midfielders appearing in the last 15 years. Fourth goalscorer is where I'd expect to see a mid but that hasn't happened often enough for us. It's usually been the fourth forward in that spot - Schneider, Kosi, Guerra, Hamill, even Loewe.
So hopefully Peake or (unlikely) Lovett could push into that spot.

Those stats suggest Sneider's recruitment is already paying off when he was often criticised on here....bergholt wrote:Yeah, but it's not about "top 4 goalscorers" exactly, it's about fourth specifically.InkerSaint wrote:Chew on this... Did Roos tell him to go fourth and multiply?Teflon wrote:Those stats suggest Sneider's recruitment is already paying off when he was often criticised on here....bergholt wrote:Yeah, but it's not about "top 4 goalscorers" exactly, it's about fourth specifically.InkerSaint wrote:Chew on this...
