ARMITAGE
I just get the feeling that the worse the weather forecast is for Saturday (i.e. rain, hail, wind), the more of a chance Armitage is to replace Eddy.
Think back to all his games this year.
- Plenty of tackles
- Contested ball
- Can kick goals too
- Has a good disposal by foot.
Yes, perhaps he does lack match fitness, however I would only expect him to play 70% game time coming off the bench to give mids a breather.
Players like him are needed against Geelong, especially on a wet day when tough bodies are needed.
I would even consider bringing in Dempster for Farren Ray, but hey, that's just my opinion.

Still has a year left on his contract so will still be their. Would be expecting him to get games if not he should look elsewhere to have a career.Joffa 5 wrote:Do you think (know if) he'll be at the saints next year?DWOODROW wrote:Doesn't have a tank apparently. Havn't seen evidence of it yet though. At least he gets possessions.

I'm with you on this one. I have a sneaking suspicion he could playbakes wrote:I just get the feeling that the worse the weather forecast is for Saturday (i.e. rain, hail, wind), the more of a chance Armitage is to replace Eddy.

Doesn't work hard enough to get to the contests. Once at the contests works very hard though. Notice how he only wins contested ball, and not much loose ball. Bit like Luke Ball himself. Can only afford to have one of this type in the team though. Need our on ballers to receive and deliver as well as give.
As for Eddy - not sure that Armo would replace him. A run with type of player like Dempster is more likely if Lyon was to change anything I eckon.

Don't remember but based on your post I'm assuming it would be Andrew Swallow?
IMO Armitage has no chance of getting a game, if RL couldn't trust him the rest of the year he's unlikely to roll the dice with him in the big one...
Armitage needs a big pre-season working on whatever it is that's keeping him out of the team, whether it be attitude, ball use, fitness etc. He has one more year to prove he deserves to be here...

It's not about having to prove himself.
Look at who he came in for - Lenny Hayes. He's fighting for a spot where we have a truckload of talent currently on the park.
Armitage may have to settle for a bit-part for the next couple of years as part of the price we will pay for having a glut of talented 26-year olds.

Or choose to go to Gold Coast at the end of 2010, where he is likely to be one of their premier mids?InkerSaint wrote:It's not about having to prove himself.

I have absolutely no inside knowledge and am purely speculating, but it has been my thoughts all year that he will be our 'uncontracted player' for them.

Then why would he stay at Saints if he can get a game elsewhere. Who wants to be a just in case player or a back up.InkerSaint wrote:It's not about having to prove himself.

Just pure speculation on my part.plugger66 wrote:Where did you hear that?Mr Magic wrote:Who was his opponent in his last game and how did he go?
(I believe it was North Melbourne)
That may give a clue as to why he's not in the team?
I figure he must have done something wrong to have been dropped?
He seemed to get plenty of the footy so it must have been another area that was considered poor.
That is an excellent point. And that is why using stats to say player A or B is better than Eddy is rubbish unless of course they do other things exactly the same.Mr Magic wrote:Just pure speculation on my part.plugger66 wrote:Where did you hear that?Mr Magic wrote:Who was his opponent in his last game and how did he go?

You mean regular footy at AFL level. All be it the fact that we are in the grand final without players who may offer more than some is a credit to the players playing but doesn't mean peoples opinions aren't warranted about particular inclusions.Milton66 wrote:I'm still amused at people speculating on players who have not played regular footy this, being called up for a GF of all games.

Yep, it's great to see all these threads/posts on Robert Eddy and:-plugger66 wrote:That is an excellent point. 'the photographs he has of Ross Lyon'
'that he is Ross' love child'
'that he is a favourite of Ross'
etc
How would anybody outside the team and coaching/match committee actually know what a player's role is and how he performed that role?
And yet some feel 'expert' enough to pass judgment in the most derogatory manner on players.
Mind boggling.

So why would you pick Armo? In a GF?DWOODROW wrote:You mean regular footy at AFL level.
