Milne - was he our worst ?
A poor game from Milney.
There were times when he simply didn't chase and apply pressure.
Other times when we kicked it to Roo who was outnumbered and Milney should have been there to crumb, but was 30 metres away.
He needs to lift his work rate and get to more contests.

Kicked a pretty vital goal.
He and Schnadzo are those sort of players, they can change a game.

If we are looking for negatives there were a few tonight but lets get positive.Enrico_Misso wrote:A poor game from Milney.

He had three massive turnovers in the first quarter.saint66au wrote:He did improve later in the game, but fair to say early on Grammy was having a 'mare

Were you at the game. Zac played a good game and was important in our defence. So sick of this negative crap. Time to put positive energy in to this site. One week to go. I am a SUPPORTer. I'm backing every one of guys right now.reincarnated wrote:No, our small forwards didnt get much of it in general to the dogs credit

Gee who was on Rohan Smith ?
They deserve votes, as I can't remember Rohan getting a touch.

Purely from a stats point of view, im not so sure whether Eddy keeps his spot.
Would be unlikely to see any changes to more established players after RL has kept the lineup pretty similar.
Dempster (esp. when RL rates GF experience very highly) maybe for Eddy?
And of course other swaps for injuries if they don't come up...

That move would be very reasonable indeed. It made very little sense that Eddy came back into the side when he did, especially given the form of Geary Armo and even Jack Steven. Has anyone ever been picked to play AFL finals on tackling alone before?
One of the main positives to take out of tonight was that a handful of our blokes had their absolute worst games of the season. Some had SHOCKERS. We can improve a heap on tonight, if we have more guys firing next week.
It's very unlikely anyone will win the GF with that many "passengers".

YOU GET WHAT YOU SETTLE FOR.
I still dunno how we pulled that one out of the bag. Thank god for Lenny and Roo.
Zac started poorly and got better. He seems to suffer nerves but then gets it under control.
Gilbert was targeted by the dogs for a little roughing up. It worked. He played the worst I've seen him play for ages.
Agree that Milne and Schneider were not often in the right spots. We were screaming for a crumber so many times.
But for mine, and I know I'll get crucified by a few people here, but Raph Clarke looked slow, unaware, unconfident and his disposal and decision making let him down a few times just before getting collected in that 3rd quarter. I'm not a Raph basher like some, I genuinely think he (or maybe Blake) was our worst tonight.
nuff said. Let's win next week! I think the boys will need the extra day's break - what a game!

Our worst for the second week in a row, I hate to say it but he could be watching the Big One from the stands.Enrico_Misso wrote:A poor game from Milney.

Was a poor game from Milne. No question.
Got the ball early and turned it over. The went unsighted. He really just goes missing in these big games.
Schneider was similar. However he did manage to get loose in the F50 in the second and third....Our disposal into the F50 was just too limited and sketchy. Still, very average game.
Eddy... Ineffective. Bad time to put in a poor game.
Raph. Far out. Had a couple of absolute howlers in the second and third. Had some crucial possessions in the last quarter. Was clean when he really, really had to be so.
Massive pressure in that game. Just so hard to get a kick. No easy possessions.
Milne does my head in going missing in these games. Really not doing his career justice.

"Now the ball is loose, it gives St. Kilda a rough chance. Black. Good handpass. Voss. Schwarze now, the defender, can run and from a long way".....

plenty of nervous underachievers last night but not sure what the point of the name and shame is...
"The inches we need are everywhere around us. They're in every break in the game. Every minute, every second. On this team we fight for that inch. On this team we tear ourselves and everyone around us to pieces for that inch. We claw with our fingernails for that inch. Because we know when we add up all those inches that's gonna make the f***in' difference between winning and losing! Between living and dying!'

There were a lot of players down last night. I think the pressure of having to make the grand final really got to a few. I dont want to highlight our not so great players but I think next week we will be better. Not so sure that the week off is always such a good thing for momentum either, but thats just my opinion.

Yes, we need much better efforts from Milne, Schneider, Gram (these 3 were quite disappointing last night) if we are to win the big one next week, especially if we are up against the Cats. Ray, Kosi and Monty were down too. Eddy is not up to it in these big games. His skills are very average and apart from his tackling/fitness he offers nothing. He needs to go out of the team.
If it wasn't for the superhuman efforts of Roo and Hayes, just like their efforts in the first final, I'm very sure we would have lost last night. Special mention to Dal, Jonesy and Fish but Rooey and Lenny were sublime. Milne is yet to make any sort of statement in any of our finals since 2004 and I hope for his sake he makes up for it next week. His positioning in our forward line and attempts to crumb last night were poorer than the Collingwood final. The only goal he kicked was virtually given to him on a plate from Goddard's great effort to feed it out. We know his capabiliies but it wont count for much if Milney continues to go missing in September. Schneider was down last night too but his effort against the Pies in the first final was better than Milne's.
Milney's performance in both games has been poor for someone at his stage of career and experience. I hope he redeems himself next week....he needs to.

Only one person that will be seriously worried about their spot is Robert Eddy.
4 possessions all night just isn't enough.
Will probably depend on match-ups but I woudn't be surprised if any of the following are brought in.......
Geary
Gwilt
Armitage
With all the talk about Maz and Goose, the one player who is really stiff is Xavier Clarke. Would have been a monty for the only one spot truly up for grabs.
