The umpire intervenes to keep the flag flying

BRIGHTON'S Norman Stent is a proud supporter of the triumphant St Kilda footy club and flies the flag outside his house after each win. But life in Brighton is not always breezy: the spoilsports at Bayside Clowncil marched in and told Stent to pull the flag down after a resident complained. The clowncil wrote this gobbledegook to Stent: "As the club is run as a limited business, the flag is deemed promotional signage pursuant to the Bayside planning scheme for which a planning permit is required." A staggered Stent wrote to the AFL and the Saints, and told Diary: "I felt that the football public in Victoria, being passionate and part of our culture, weren't aware that if they flew a flag, they were likely to face prosecution."
Stent also wrote to Planning Minister Justin Madden, who happens to understand the game, and the clowncil was ruled out of bounds. Madden's executive director of planning services, David Hodge, told Stent and clowncil chief Adrian Robb: "Flying a football club flag is a sign of loyalty, not an advertisement or sign. It is disappointing that the Bayside City Council is so literal in its interpretation. Obviously the letter was written by a Collingwood supporter!" Ooh, that insult hurt.
The clowncil suddenly backflipped, telling Diary no further action would be taken, but that was news to Stent. The clowncil forgot to tell him. Maybe it was too busy putting other flags back up.

Back home in NSW we out our flag out the front each week we win! So far it has been there since Rd1! No complaints thus far. What's next? Some baffoon citing flags as being a distration to drivers?
Petty thing really! What are they going to ban us from flying flags out car windows- as it incites "promotional signage".
What muppets are the council.

Go saints in '09!
Frankston Council has had the Saints flag flying at the Civic Centre alonside the Australian flag etc. They probably still do but I haven't ventured up there for a while to see if they still do. I know the Frankston Council are very wrapt to have the Saints coming down and I think they will be very supportive.

They still have it flying!!
There are more and more supporters walking around decked out in saints gear. Just last week i talked to 4 separate saints fans when i was in the supermarket. I'm pretty sure Frankston will be all decked out if we get there!
Go saints in '09!
