Saintsational Match Thread - St Kilda vs Geelong

Post: # 768350Post OneEyedSainter77 »

ETIHAD STADIUM ROUND 14 SUNDAY 5 JULY

We've been waiting all year for it and the time is finally here.

Now the two undisputed best teams of 2009 so far will go head to head in a battle for the ages.

Never before in VFL/AFL history have two teams met at 13-0. The hype on this game is enormous, but justifiable. For two teams that have won just nine flags between them in 111 seasons to generate this much attention is a mark of how remarkable these two teams are.

Make no mistake, a lot writes on this game. Geelong finally get to flex their considerable muscle against a worhty opponent and St Kilda finally get to play someone in great form and with virtually their best side.

You couldn't ask for a better build up for such an enormous match and even though it is esentially a glorified home and away match, you can't help but feel an atmosphere respective of a Grand Final...

TEAMS:

ST KILDA v GEELONG
St Kilda
B: Jason Blake, Sam Gilbert, Zac Dawson
HB: Steven Baker, Sam Fisher, Brendon Goddard
C: Farren Ray, Luke Ball, Nick Dal Santo
HF: Jason Gram, Nick Riewoldt, Adam Schneider
F: Lenny Hayes, Justin Koschitzke, Stephen Milne
Foll: Michael Gardiner, Clint Jones, Leigh Montagna
I/C: Raphael Clarke, Jarryn Geary, Ben McEvoy, Andrew McQualter
Emg: Robert Eddy, James Gwilt, Luke Miles

In: Clarke
Out: Max Hudghton (ankle)

Geelong
B: Tom Harley, Matthew Scarlett, James Kelly
HB: Corey Enright, Harry Taylor, Andrew Mackie
C: Joel Corey, Jimmy Bartel, Travis Varcoe
HF: Gary Ablett, Cameron Mooney, Steve Johnson
F: Paul Chapman, Tom Hawkins, Max Rooke
Foll: Shane Mumford, Cameron Ling, Joel Selwood
I/C: Mark Blake, Shannon Byrnes, Darren Milburn, Mathew Stokes
Emg: Simon Hogan, David Wojcinski, Ryan Gamble

In: Stokes
Out: David Johnson (calf)

Update final teams as they come available.

GO....

This is a big match! I have family and friends coming from Sydney to the Central Coast to watch this as its only on Foxtel in NSW. Feels like when we all get together to watch finals each year.

Bring it ON!

I would've preferred to play them with Johnson in. Would give us a better idea of where we are at against them.

Plus if we win they will say it's because he was out. If they win they will be all cocky because he wasn't playing.

Anyone can be injured at any time... including the finals. You can only beat the team that's sent out against you.

Having said that, yeah, that is a big out for them.
Go Sainters!

The whole football world has made excuses for our opposition whenever we have defeated teams. Just remember we're missing King and Hudghton. Cats are missing Johnson and Ottens. You can only beat the 22 put out on the park.

I prefer playing the Cats without him. Lets live in the now and stuff what anyone says. At the end of the day the record books will show the final score. Not too many will delve into the playing lists that show who played.

Geelong supporters are entitled to be cocky given how good they've been over the last few years. Make no mistake it still won't be easy but it has been made easier with Johnson not playing.
