He aint, but against Geelong, someone is needed to play on Harley. By then playing many of our forward entries through Gwilt, Harley will need to stay focussed on his man - not just running off.SaintWodonga wrote:100% agreeSaint Bev wrote:Nothing against Gwilt, but you can't tell me he is better than Macguire or Dempster.
This is what we did againt Essendon, causing Adam McPhee to show some respect, and it worked.
We have no other player in our team that can play this role well for 100% game time

i believe that he is better than maguire...the guy has not played for a couple of years now and when he did get back played pretty badly u have to admit....he did however show signs of becoming a very good cb before he broke his leg...with regards to dempster they play 2 different positions dempster is more of a tagging defender with little or no run...he is good at stopping his oppontent...i dont believe that he is 100% match fit after his knee reco and only a couple of games for vfl we shouldn't see him back in the side...if gwilt was unfairly dropped imho as he didnt play pretty reasonable on the forward line...and as i have mentioned in another thread a lead up forward would mean that harly will not be able to go third or second man up across the back line were he is so dangerous...it will make him more accountable as gwilt has a got a very god kick on him and if left alone can damage them....Saint Bev wrote:Nothing against Gwilt, but you can't tell me he is better than Macguire or Dempster.

I agree it will be Gwilt. Can't be Miles for his first game of the year againstThinline wrote:Gwilt straight in then I guess.
Geelong surely ?
Dermie killed it in his first game but I'm guessing Miles ain't no Dermie.
Raph would be out of contention also imo. i fear for us if he is even though
he did well in the final last year.
Also Eddy... too big a game to bring into top AFL level from where he's
been for the last months. Maybe in another game like WCE ?

I don't think it will be Gwilt I think Eddy to add another runner to the side. Geelong's main strength is their midfield and Eddy will add another rotation to create the pressure that we have been so successful in creating this year. If we can win the midfield we can win the game, if we are not competitive in the midfield we will get thumped unfortunately.

I think it depends where you want to player to play..Saint Bev wrote:Nothing against Gwilt, but you can't tell me he is better than Macguire or Dempster.
Down back...Gwilt is inferior.
Demspter also probably is not sufficiently match hardened yet...and you din't take underdown players into big games.
As a medium HFF he has the edge..

I would like to see Robert Eddy get a game this week.
He played well last year and was playing well this year before that flowering umpire ran into him in the NAB Cup this year.
If it was for that incident he may have played in round 1

the fact is we need a smaller mobile defender to deal with chapman, stokes, stevie j and varcoe .
the big message from this weeks selections is that matt maguires time at the saints is over (if hes not even in the emergencies when max is injured he not even be in the reckoning).
i love goose and its no fault of his own. but for his own sanity & opportunity he should probably look for a new club. saints could get a 2nd rounder for him.
im sure plenty of clubs would love to have him.

Exactly, why do you think that Eddy is "no chance" in playing?plugger66 wrote:Why is that?iwantmeseats wrote:We cant be debuing anyone this week. And goose counts as a debut! Eddy, no chance.
FWIW I think he is a better player the R Clarke and Gwilt

Eddy is my pick to come in. He provides flexibility for BJ to go forward if Kosi and Roo are negated.St Fidelius wrote:Exactly, why do you think that Eddy is "no chance" in playing?plugger66 wrote:Why is that?iwantmeseats wrote:We cant be debuing anyone this week. Robert Eddy has played two games this season...
Round 5 V Port Adelaide: 11 kicks 9 Handballs 4 tackles and 1 goal, 2 score assists
Round 6 V Bulldogs: 11 kicks 7 Handballs 1 tackle and 2 score assists.
In his two games he has averaged 19 disposals and 6 marks a match with a disposal efficiency of 76%
I just find it amazing that someone can state that he is "no chance" of getting a game this week

well Steve J is not small at 189cm...but don't forget Byrnes....Geelong' third top goal scorer....and only 174cm tall.Con Gorozidis wrote:the fact is we need a smaller mobile defender to deal with chapman, stokes, stevie j and varcoe .

I think Miles is half a chance....Geelong have been very reliant of late on their smalls getting the goals.

Ross loves referring to structures etc... thats why I wouldn't think Miles would come in against such a strong opposition. However having said that, it seems that Ross is focused on backing ourselves, why shelter debutants from the best if they have a chance of contributing in a positive manner in the long run.
The email that came around tonight has Miles listed in the first 4 interchange spots, not that it means anything at all
