Clash strip on Sunday!!
I have just heard that we will be wearing our clash strip on Sunday. We are the HOME team and should be wearing our HOME strip FFS! But apparently Essendon's clash strip clashes with our home strip... (get your head around that!!)
If this is true, it's bloody ridiculous that the AFL signed off on Essendon's clash strip if it clashes with our home jumper

Thats f@#$D if true. So the AFL have authorised Essendons clash jumper only to deem that it clashes with our home jumper? What a load of crap.
The last two years they have worn the jumper with the massive red sash and red shorts. What is wrong with that this year?

But wait for it - so will Essendon!!! Well, at least their clash jumper, but with black shorts.
Chop me legs off and call me stumpy, but what happened to the (140 year old) tradition of the home team wearing black shorts?

I don't get it.
We cant use our much loved candy striped jumper as a clash jumper because it clashes with other teams. We were forced to come up with an alternative.
Incompetence of the highest order.

It's got nothing to with being stuck in the past, it's a matter of respect.Beno88 wrote:Really, who gives a stuff?! As long as we are wearing red, white and black and we get the four points who really cares?!
If we need to wear white shorts with our away jumper then so be it. This debate is for people stuck in the past.
Sometimes you have to stick up for yourself. If you don't you get walked over. It's our home game. They are coming to play us. They should have an adequate clash jumper.

Of course the win and four points are the most important thing.Beno88 wrote:Really, who gives a stuff?! As long as we are wearing red, white and black and we get the four points who really cares?!

But there is a principal in play here.
The fact that teams have to wear a clash strip is to avoid a clash (I would have thought). But this is clearly NOT the case. And it is restricted to two clubs.
Collingwood's clash strip clashes with the Kangaroos (as does their home strip). So, as a clash strip, it is not adequate. Collingwood, in fact, would have been fine if they stuck with their "traditional" strip of white with black stripes and wore a predominant black strip against North Melbourne and Geelong. Too easy!
Essendon's clash strip would not only clash with us but also raise concerns with Melbourne. Their ridiculous (and probably non-binding) constitution states that they MUST wear black with a red sash. Isn't it time the AFL forced the hand of these two outdated clubs? Essendon should wear a red strip when they play us. Their shorts can also be red (to avoid the white). We wear predominant black, they wear predominant red...what's the issue?

This has to be BS. We are the home team, and we have no deal with the bummers.I have just heard that we will be wearing our clash strip on Sunday. We have cleverly made our 'clash' strip very similar to our home strip. It retains our colours and our original frontal design. I have no problem with us wearing it whenever is needed.
Clash strips are used for a jumper 'clash', ie - it is difficult for spectators to tell the teams apart, therefore wearing a more identifiable strip is to our (the spectators) advantage. If I can watch and follow the game more clearly because of a 'clash' strip, then great. No problems.
It's got nothing to do with getting walked all over or standing up for ourselves, it's just common sense.

If that's true then I'm sure that would be the first instance of two clubs BOTH wearing clash strips against each other???

S--- & Dung has an "away" strip.
They have never had a "clash" strip.
That is because the AFL has never made the "born to rule" clubs have a genuine clash strips.
Have I ever suggested that AFL is an abbreviation for corruption?
But don't be too upset saints fans.
Modern football requires high speed play.
Especially inside packs and where players are partly obstructed from view, there is an advantage in being able to quickly sight a large patch of white.
St Kilda's clash strip gives St Kilda players an advantage over the arrogant clubs like Collingwood and Essendon.

This is the type of thing that used to piss me off, but that game they wore that red clash strip a few years ago didn't stop the clash anyway.
I couldn't give a rats, as long as we bury those Bomber a*se clown. The clash isn't great, but its still our colours, just a fatter strip.
Relax, life is good right now
