It depends on what they agree his vote is on the board. May not be an issue. Depends on the governance structure.chook23 wrote:CEO .....answers to the board
he is remaining on Board
have always thought this a conflict of sorts
Was Miller of Richmond CEO and board member or Football manager and board member......
which ever it caused some grief over at tiges in the end.

Don't know, but from memory, NO. Is Michael Nettlefold definately staying on the Board? I haven't heard anything other than the announcement. If so, he will be the "Executive Director" and not the "CEO". Same job, just different name for legal reasons !!chook23 wrote:but the question is did remain on the boardEastern wrote:To me it looks like a good appointment; successful in business, well connected etc etc, and a former player
Was Jim Watts on the board just prior to his appointment as CEO? Someone with a better memory than I will know !!

Generally CEO is directed by boardfingers wrote:Why?chook23 wrote:Personally think he should step down from board....
and reports back to board
If board want to discuss his performance as EO (CEO) it may not be prudent to discuss all in front of him at board meeting
board should call him before them as required......
but he should be at every board meeting in his role as board member but not as EO or CEO
think there is conflict or perceived that could be used by varying parties including media.

Our constitution used to prohibit the CEO being on the Board, but it was amended specifically at an AGM a few years ago so that Jim Watts could hold the roles of both Board member and CEO concurrently.
My recollection is that, in being allowed to hold both roles prior to the amendment, the Club was actually operating in breach of the constitution at the time.

I know next to jack about MN, but the first thing that springs to mind is that, so close to the start of the season, I like the fact that he will not need much running in to hand over as he has so much experience at the club already. We seem to be humming from an admin point of view, so "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" seems to be the message.
As usual, time will tell.

I don't know MN one bit but have the following observations:
- MN certainly looks like he has a great commercial and football pedigree;
- Westaway came to 'power' on the back of making RB look 2nd rate in terms of processes;
- We now have a CEO appointed by a Board of which he was sitting on and is going to continue to sit on;;
- The process has not been exhaustive nor could it have been given the small lead time in the appointment;
- Given our past experience of 'mates' being appointed - is this really a good look?
just some thoughts to ponder. keep in mind, he does have an impressive football and commercial background, i am just a little tender about going through this type of process so soon after the RB / GT relationship.
philip
p.s. AF going is a great thing for him and for our club!

Just looking forward to us having a real crack each week, and appreciating the younger talent coming through.
