I rate Nathan Burke very highly.
He slips under the radar with alot of people IMO, because his wasn't a 'glamour' player
Rarely played an ordinary game & threw everything at it for his entire career.
The current number 3 isn't a patch on it's predessor.
So glad he played with us & glad he is still with us.
A true, genuine, Saints Great. (minus the glamour)

Harvey >>>>>>>>>>>>>> any player I've ever seen.

Burke was a hardnut with great leadership skills, IMO he was a rich man's Scott Burns, Nicky Winmar was a freak who could dominate a game, but his disciplinary issues and tendancies to go missing let him down.

Both Burke and Winmar are St Kilda legends but Robert Harvey is an Australian Sporting legend. What Harvey did in his career was incredible and his record 21 seasons will never be challenged, he was able to perform at a high level for such a long time but when he was at his very best he dominated the game like no player has since.

ROBERT HARVEY A.K.A The Great Man, Banger, Harves, Ol' Man River...
384 games, 4 B&F's, 3 EJ Whitten Medals, St.Kilda Captain, 2 Time Brownlow Medalist, 8 Time All Australian, 2nd Highest Brownlow votes poller.... The greatest of ALL TIME!!

Not quite 100% for me.
I reckon he's equal #3 on all-time Saints that I've seen:-

1.Baldock
2.Lockett
3.Stewart and Harvey
4.Ditterich
5.Winmar

Burkie as great a player and clubman that he was wouldn't probably make my top 10.

In no particular order all of the following Saints would be in front of him as a player, IMHO
Ross Smith
Trevor Barker
Verrdun Howell
Stewart Loewe
Nick Riewoldt
Cowboy Neale
George Young

to name a few off the top of my head.

Harvs was an out and out champ. Too hard to list all his achievements.
Dont forget that Burkey won 3 B&F's in the same team as Harvey, Loewe, Winmar, Lockett, Frawley. Also fininshed in the top 3 eight times, missed a brownlow by 1 single vote.

Winmar had amazing skills but your right about him going missing at times.

If there was a player from the 60's or 70's with that sort of record you would have him in your top 10 for sure.

And dont say it was because we had an ordinary side. The fact is we havent had a tonne of great teams.

Only two men have won more B and F's than Burkey did. Harvey and Riewoldt. Harvs himself says that he wouldnt have been as good without him doing al the tough stuff. Lets face it, as good as Harvs is he was never a great tackler or led the way in the tougher aspects that are required.

We must have different memories yes he may have been high maintenance off the field but to me his form was very consistent and reliable.

I don't remember going home too many times with him being shut down put it that way.

What Harves did over 21 years is more than any other player achieved - perhaps by double....

He is without doubt the best EVER!!!!

If you think there has been a more skilful footballer (winning the ball in footy is perhaps the most important skill) I think we should bring out the 97-98 tapes.......or maybe the 92/94 tapes, maybe even the 2003 tapes....

His final vs Adelaide is example of a great game.....can you do better on a big stage, probably not....and it was 17 years into his career....

We know his achievements.....why do we underate him?

Surely we get angry when other club do?

Question
Why would Baldock (the legend he was, and I am taswegian) who played 5 seasons even compare to a guy who dominated for 20 seasons....seriously...

Calling Winmar magical is correct.......what is more magical than Harves running rings around a midfield for a couple hours and picking up 40, he also weaved a spell.....asked anyone who tried to tackle him
