A MULTI-million dollar cost blow-out has forced St Kilda footy club to rethink their controversial move to a new base in Frankston.
According to Localfooty.com, the expected $1.5 million cost of redeveloping Frankston Park into an elite football base has blown out by $5 million, putting the plan into deep doubt.
Saints boss Archie Fraser today confirmed the club was now reconsidering its move.
The financial crunch led Fraser to admit today that the Saints might look to other sites in Frankston if costs could not be reined in.
It’s believed Belvedere Park, which has been earmarked as a potential training venue for TAC Cup team the Dandenong Stingrays, is one alternative.
St Kilda’s contribution to the $10.25m elite training facility and administration centre at Frankston Park was put at $1.5 million when the project was announced amid great fanfare last November.
But it has got as high as $5 million, due largely to rising steel prices and building restrictions on the site.

Excellent news.
First the Sandy alignment and now this.
Perhaps sanity will prevail in the end.
Keep the Saints at MOORABBIN !

TREVOR BARKER OVAL
Aside from the Junction Oval, this has to be our number one option,
Just make it happen, we are now aligned with Sandringham, this would be a dream scenario if this can be wokred through,
I'm sure Sandringham would be most welcoming,
More enticing for players to lure to our club with it's location, not that far from the city.
and besides what better location ( aside from the Junction Oval of course )than to have St.Kilda's training facility at the TREVOR BARKER OVAL
It just makes perfect sense!

If we can't afford to build at the site at Frankston Park, I don't think beachfront sandringham real estate will be within our budget.barks4eva wrote:TREVOR BARKER OVAL

Yet another Archie Fraser special.
I am truly gobsmacked he remains in charge. I didn't mind him at first but he is just shonky.
He is part of problem, not the solution. If he loves this club like he says, he should step aside for a superior candidate.

Question, Is it possible for the whole deal to fall over?
Answer,
Definitely not. We're definitely going to Frankston.
Question; So you will be going to Frankston, but there's no guarantee it'll be Frankston park?
Answer; It still could be Frankston Park... but asked the council to check alternative sites also to it to see if they could work. One site that's come up in the last few months was to develop in conjunction a field in conjunction with the Dandenong Stingrays.
The main thing is the project is not going to fall over. We will do it. We will be going to Frankson, that's our strategy to be in the bayside suburbs. And we'll do it within budget and Maintain our bayside status.
What I heard was it will be done at Frankston and within the budget ??
Do you know something else?
Our best is yet
to come......
to come......

Disappointed he wasn't moved on by Westaway, but he positioned himself superbly amidst the winds of change to keep his job.

Maybe they can re-design the elite training facility to match the current facilities at Moorabbin???
What a debacle... things just keep getting better. The one thing that has maintained my faith that club is in Melbourne to stay is the Frankston development. If this falls over we will be behind every other club except North Melbourne in terms of a quality training venue.
