Play Armo on Akker???

Post: # 579984Post saintspremiers »

How would that be?

Give the boy a huge test, both mentally and physically.

I reckon he could be up to it, perhaps not the whole game and rotate with Bally, but worth a crack eh?

No...or at least not when Aka is in the Dogs forward line.

Aka only needs a quarter to turna game and is in very good form.

I am not knocking Armo, but I think he has had very little experience of defensive play.

Judging by the words that came out of stevie baker's own mouth, he wont be playing this week.
I'd be tempted to play Birss on Aker only because he's quicker but Dempster is the other option i guess.

Interesting idea....

From the little i have seen of Geary (only his AFL games), he seems to be a natural footballer who has a high level of skill, and this goes with his ability to spoil also... He did some great spoils v. Melb...

May be the challenge that Geary needs to make him feel like he belongs.. Similar hight, weight, pace to Aker, and as mentioned earlier is skillful, so could look to hurt Aker on the way out..

Good idea, I'd go with it....

After the job Birss did on Shaw the other week, I think that is a great choice. Birss has played some very good shut-down roles this year and it would not surprise me if he will be Lyon's first choice for Aker.

The other advantge with Birss is his offensive side, he can kick goals, so it will give Acker something negative to consider about his own game.
The other ace we now have is the human tackle magnet, CJ
Go Jones, prove "them" wrong.

A couple of interesting selections there, IMO Birss would be better suited on Gilbee or even Cooney. I don't think he is 100% accountable like you would need to be on Akka, IMO CJ wouldn't be a bad idea, tell him to not let Akka out of his sights and he should do respectably...

ANd Aka doesn't spend too much time in his own backline, so if Birss was tagging him you wouldn't expect to see him having many shots at goal.

Birss has doen a pretty good job on tagging the opposition's 'distributor' put of their defense (like Shaw) and hurts them if they are not accountable on him.

I don't think that Armo could go with Aka for long - Aka would burn him off after a quarter.

I would start with Geary and if that doesn't work, then I would go with Dempster.
Aka can be very damagaing but he rarely wins the game off hi own boot.

Max to take Johnson
Blake to take Minson/Hudson
Fisher to take Welsh/Hahn
BJ to take whoever of the 2 that Fisher doesn't
Dempster/Geary to take the other HFF (Eagleton?)

That would leave Gramm to move up teh ground to the wing - maybe run with Gia or Cooney?

Id still take Baker if Aker is in the middle, and Dempster if he goes to the forward line.

Birss isnt strong enouigh in his body or overhead to compete one on one with Aker, and Aker has an explosive burst of pace... hes in sensational form. We need a real stopper on him.

Cooney (then Murphy) is their leading possession winner
