Our Cheer Squad is Laughable
"Unbelievably frustrating and incredibility boring."
Week in, week out; I could not think of more suitable term to describe our cheersquad.
30,000 members and you wouldn’t have thought we had more than 10,000 supporters at the game last night. It is really laughable and pathetic that the profile of the club comes back on our cheersquad when clearly they do not any footy appreciation.
When the contests are close, and games on the line, the cheersquad is quiet, unnoticeable and almost in hiding. They need to get serious and take a hard look at themselves after all the profile of the St Kilda Footy Club is generated through its supporters.
Either get serious, and make feel like our home game or step aside and let saints fans that are passionate and supportive be the face and profile of our club.

5 prelims in 7 years. 40 wins from 49 games.
2009 and 2010 were 2 of the 5 best years ever by the St.Kilda FC.
Thanks for all your efforts Saints.

Gee, don't pick on the Cheer Squad. They do so much (like CSs at other clubs) for the game. They yell and scream but can't do it all. Deserve a medal (premiership) all of them.
Oh, and they also do the banner - something that is still unique in our game - something the AFL hasn't outlawed (yet) like the contested mark.

I see bigger issues than the cheer squad right now.
Much bigger issues.
This gets done to death constantly but I haven't got the time to get down and help with them with their banners etc., so unless you do, let them be.
We are a renowned quiet supporter group - comes from years of being very loud and arrogant when 40 points up only to suffer a defeat.
Now we just sit on our larynx's.

When was the last time a player was interviewed after a close loss and blamed the result on the lack of noise from the supporters?
I refuse to believe that the noise makes any differences and if ti does that is just downright unprofessional from our players...
They should be playing their best footy whether their being cheered, booed or ignored week in, week out...
But for the record, the CS is a joke...

Since when are 200 people responsible for the actions of 20,000 plusEither get serious, and make feel like our home game or step aside and let saints fans that are passionate and supportive be the face and profile of our club
have you organised the group around you to make a noise?
I am sure the collingwood cheersquad were NOT on level 3 last night
but there were plenty of pies flags and cheering from up there
I am sure the pies cheersquad were NOT in the AFL reserved area But there were plenty of pies fans there too
I am sure the pies cheersquad was Not in the Saints reserved area around me- but there were pies fans with VOICE.
one thing noted at AAMI several weeks ago there is a group or groups of about 10-20 young people with flags who are positioned around the ground- 'Outer army'- or 'outer clowns'- including a group always positioned next to opposition cheersquads-
apparently NOT santioned by the cheersquad BUT they are making noise- for the team- even when there are only 4 dozen there.
why is everyone waiting for the cheersquad before they make any noise or raise their voice?

"Outer Army" they are an awesome bunch of people that i sit with then i go to the port games with my mate.
they have hundreds of memebrs across Australia and they usually sit a few bays away from the cheer squad at the Melbourne games, or if its a small game they sit with the Cheer Squad to make it look bigger.
kind of like the Moorabbin wing, except they do nothing, the Outer Army does something. the OA has flags, floggers, chants for players and the lot!
heres a clip from heritage rd last year against the dogs there the outer army did a lap of the city as a group before the game:

Yep...but plenty of teams (generally the Interstate ones with their 90/10 crowd support) acknowledge the crowd support as a factor after a winArmoooo wrote:When was the last time a player was interviewed after a close loss and blamed the result on the lack of noise from the supporters?

Heres some ways to fire up the crowd..
* Back yourself to kick long goals on the run (We dont)
* Kick a few of those freaky goals we seem to have kicked on us each week (We dont)
* Kick a string of goals in a short time (we dont)
DONT..spend 25 possesions chip kicking the ball around before FINALLY getting it to an unmanned target who kicks a goal from a set shot. The crowd have been too busy moaning and groaning at our laboured efforts to goal that they really arent inspired enough to get rowdy (Evident on the MW every week)

You have got to be kidding! The single most effective strategy for winning any away game is to silence the opposition supporters by gaining supremecy over our oponents. It works nearly every timesaint66au wrote:Yep...but plenty of teams (generally the Interstate ones with their 90/10 crowd support) acknowledge the crowd support as a factor after a winArmoooo wrote:When was the last time a player was interviewed after a close loss and blamed the result on the lack of noise from the supporters?

What a load of c**P blaming the cheersquad. I was just thinking last time I went to the dome that the chants aren't coming this year. I thought about it and realised that even when we win I am going home angry and frustrated. The way we are playing, even when we win, does not make me want to get up and cheer. When we kick a goal its more a feeling of, 'Thank God' or 'Finally got one, geez.'
I thought last night we played a lot better than we had in weeks even though we lost, it was a lot better to watch and as a result one or 2 'StKilda' chants went up.

Exactly right, We cant blame it on one group of people who do to much already and anyway you have to remember unlike the collingwood cheersquad our cheersquad has a life outside football

i have sat in the cheer squad for about 4 years now, and never seen anyone arrested or taken out.
i have sat in the Collingwood cheer squad 3 times this year, and about 8 people have been taken away. a good 5 or 6 of them were from the Carlton game. they remind me of pit bulls locked up in a cage that hasn’t been fed for a week, they are wild after a bad decision by the umps.

Re: Our Cheer Squad is Laughable
Well instead of bagging the cheersquad, all of which do tremendous work for their clubs, do your part and join in and help them make some noise. Get your friends involved, get your family involved. Cheer squad members donate countless hours to add to the spectacle of an AFL match, and all you can do is sit on your backside in front of a computer and type dribble. That's a shame.LennyBoy wrote:"Unbelievably frustrating and incredibility boring."

I don't have a problem with Collingwood or it's cheersquad, but I'm a touch concerned with the public profile of their leader, Joffa. With his ever increasing public notoriety, they will attract people desperate for some time in the sun, with anti behaviour, not really in line with football barracking. Joffa and Collingwood should be working a bit harder to stamp out the idiots that I have seen amongst the crowd. Just a couple of bad lemons brings undone all the good work done by the good apples.saintdooley wrote:yessaint edward wrote:Milan Faletic wrote:The cheersquad is the least of our problems.
