Set Plays
A set play from the kickout when we were one point down won us the game today. The big arm rotation by whoever it was kicking out called in the play, and within three or four kicks we had it in our forward 50.
Fantastic stuff and I hope we see more of it this year.

Plugger not every set play WOULD or HAS to result in a goal to be proven a bona fide "set play"plugger66 wrote:Set play my arse. just good play and like any other point could have been turned over. Otherwise why wouldnt we score from every kick out.
I like you though so dont go ballistic on me.
Thank you.

If a set play was carried out for every kick in then the opposition would catch on rather quickly,,As far as a set play for your arse is concerned,i'll give it a miss.plugger66 wrote:Set play my arse. just good play and like any other point could have been turned over. How many defenders will The Saints pick in the 2024 draft ?
If the set play was i will play on and kick it long then you are right but the rest of it was luck but good luck to them i say.vergs wrote:Definately a set play, as signalled by Montagna before the kick in.plugger66 wrote:Set play my arse. just good play and like any other point could have been turned over. well put otiman,Otiman wrote:It had more to do with field positioning than anything else, allowed us to set up the switch properly, and get every st. kilda player out there knowing what was going on.
in fact have a look at the first game against the tigers, there was a point where king tapped it into space and joey seemed to go from pack to space in an instance. This comes down to others positioning themselves to block the opposition, thus creating the space. G and roo do this very well when working in tandem. Hopefully all these closed sessions will produce man of these set plays, becase the likes of port and geelong score easy goals by producing space goal side to roving players.

But is incorrect. He kicked to himself, ran to a pocket, switched the play to Gram in the middle about 45 metres out,who kicked to the fat side where the Saints had created a two on one. The kick into the forward line was a hail mary, but it paid off. It took 26 seconds from the play on to the umpire singalling the goal.plugger66 wrote: If the set play was i will play on and kick it long then you are right but the rest of it was luck but good luck to them i say.
If that was not a set play to use Gram to switch to the fat side, well thee are no such things as set plays.
Lance or James??
There comes a point in every man's life when he has to say, "Enough is enough." For me, that time is now. I have been dealing with claims that I cheated and had an unfair advantage in <redacted>. Over the past three years, I have been subjected to a <redacted>investigation followed by <redacted> witch hunt. The toll this has taken on my family, and my work for <redacted>and on me leads me to where I am today – finished with this nonsense. (Oops just got a spontaneous errection <unredacted>)

When you have number of different signals, you can confuse the oppostion players and coaches. You give some silly signal, the oppostion expects a set play. While they are trying to work out what the set play is you just play normal. If you score the oppostion spend the rest of the match trying to work out what the set play was.

I watched the replay again this morning.
Before Joey signalled the powerplay, Gram is in the top left of screen signaling the powerplay too. As Joey sees that he signals the powerplay. Then he plays on and as he does that, the two Geelong players closest to Gram drift across the right where Joey is looking to go, at the same time, Gram drifts back towards the wing where he recieves the kick from Gilbert. I think he mightve looked to go the torp after that.

I would think there ought to be a set play on every kick in, just not necessarily the same one... IF that was a set play, what set it apart was calling for a specific one. I'm not sold, but it worked, so i'm happy.bobmurray wrote:If a set play was carried out for every kick in then the opposition would catch on rather quickly,,As far as a set play for your arse is concerned,i'll give it a miss.plugger66 wrote:Set play my arse. just good play and like any other point could have been turned over. Yeah, it was Charlie G, knocked it down to Allen who kicked a lovely goal, it was clear they had been working on that in the off season, with Milne and Schneider in the same team it will be a very effective way for kosi, Riewoldt and Gehrig to beat the double/ triple team...riccardo wrote:There was one on Saturday loved when someone (maybe Chalie C) was getting double teamed in a marking contest up forward and he palmed the ball down into a crumbers hands. Snap. Goal.
I know this is probably oft used, but these are things we have gotten used NOT to seeing recently.
