A former girlfriend of AFL personality Sam Newman was exposed to excessive drug use and became a cocaine addict during their personal relationship, a court has heard.
Louisa Glenda Larkin appeared at Melbourne Magistrates Court today to face allegations that she fraudulently altered cheques written by Newman to steal money from him in 2003 and 2004.
Her lawyer, Paul Holdenson, QC, told the court Larkin admitted to the allegations and would plead guilty to six charges of obtaining property by deception.
He said that during her personal relationship with Newman she was introduced to the use of cocaine and ecstasy and later suffered a psychotic episode from her drug use.
Jeffrey Cummins, a forensic psychologist who has been treating Larkin, told the court that Larkin told him she had used drugs sporadically before she met Newman in 1999.
"As a result of being in that relationship she was exposed to excessive drug use . . . she became addicted to cocaine," he said.
The hearing continues.

They should only play AFL games now when it's raining. Slow games of footy are so much better to watch.

Perhaps I'm misunderstanding....Otiman wrote:When I say 'responsible', i'd consider doing cocaine on a regular basis around her to be considered unacceptable, but not illegal.Riewoldting wrote:Only if he held a gun to her head.Otiman wrote:It doesn't mention whether Sam Newman was at all responsible for her cocaine addiction
Doing cocaine on a regular basis is now a legal activity?

Correct, consuming cocaine is not illegal per se.snippa wrote:Perhaps I'm misunderstanding....Otiman wrote:When I say 'responsible', i'd consider doing cocaine on a regular basis around her to be considered unacceptable, but not illegal.Riewoldting wrote:Only if he held a gun to her head.Otiman wrote:It doesn't mention whether Sam Newman was at all responsible for her cocaine addiction

Pretty low to try to drag Sam Newman into the whole thing and say he was the reason she got on to coke.
No one knows for sure that he was on it or not, but this chick has clearly taken advantage of the fact Sam doesn't have a squeaky clean reputation and exploited him for her own gain, and not for the first time by the sounds of it.
Say what you like about Sam, but he genuinely doesn't care what people think about him and you have to admire that.

My rudimentary knowledge of the law leads me to believe actually comsuming the drugs is not illegal, but possessing them (for personal use) is, as is posessing paraphanelia (like pipes and stuff) and obviously selling it.Spinner wrote:Really?Riewoldting wrote:Correct, consuming cocaine is not illegal per se.snippa wrote:Perhaps I'm misunderstanding....Otiman wrote:When I say 'responsible', i'd consider doing cocaine on a regular basis around her to be considered unacceptable, but not illegal.Riewoldting wrote:Only if he held a gun to her head.Otiman wrote:It doesn't mention whether Sam Newman was at all responsible for her cocaine addiction

There are some restrictions for medicinal use, I think.

paraphanelia is not illegal, there are a lot of stores you can buy these no problems (ie the bong shop) what is illegal I am lead to believe is using them for illegal substances.
Unless it is parphenalia before being used and classified as drug paraphenelia after being used. hmmmmmmm dunno

As far as I know, unless the law has changed, use of cocaine is illegal. I believe it actually has its own charge.riccardo wrote:

Not as such; criminality predominantly attaches to possession, and consumption is not good evidence of actual possession.Spinner wrote:Really?Riewoldting wrote:Correct, consuming cocaine is not illegal per se.snippa wrote:Perhaps I'm misunderstanding....Otiman wrote:When I say 'responsible', i'd consider doing cocaine on a regular basis around her to be considered unacceptable, but not illegal.Riewoldting wrote:Only if he held a gun to her head.Otiman wrote:It doesn't mention whether Sam Newman was at all responsible for her cocaine addiction

yep ... and especially the Newman peanutrodgerfox wrote:Why are people surprised when allegations of drug use are made against people not living in the gutter?
Drug use in society is rife. It's the rule rather than the exception in most walks of life. It's the 'having a beer' of the 2000s.
... there has been more than whispers going around with his boat etc etc but he just laughs them off saying 'I wish'.
... isn't posession 9/10th's of the law?

It's how you use that possession that wins you games of footy. The Peanut wrote:yep ... and especially the Newman peanutrodgerfox wrote:Why are people surprised when allegations of drug use are made against people not living in the gutter?
