MELBOURNE, Sept 19 AAP - St Kilda veteran Robert Harvey will announce tomorrow that his amazing AFL career will continue next season.

The oldest current player at 36 played 20 games this season to take his career tally to 360, easily the club record.

St Kilda have announced Harvey and coach Ross Lyon will front a media conference at the club tomorrow morning.

After plenty of speculation over the last few months about Harvey's future, club sources have confirmed he will keep playing.

Harvey won the 1997 and `98 Brownlow Medals and is universally regarded as one of the modern game's best midfielders.

His durability has been remarkable and he routinely had more than 20 possessions per game this season, although his form tapered towards the end of the season.

Saints players Fraser Gehrig, Matthew Clarke, Brett Voss and Andrew Thompson have announced their retirements.

Indeed, but this one is the only one which has an article to back it up without having to trawl through three pages of personal opinion and 'maybes' before getting to something remotely substantiated :)

What a relief. Received a text message from a certain poster who will remain nameless (he knows who he is) telling me about a press conference tomorrow morning as I was getting into the lift to leave work. Suffice to say, I got some pretty weird looks when I almost started crying. Knew there was life in the old legs. :wink:

379 if he plays 20 matches next year ... that puts him 3rd on the all-time games list.

Should have the most Brownlow votes of all time when he finishes too.


They should only play AFL games now when it's raining. Slow games of footy are so much better to watch.
