Land of the giants midfield

Post: # 2081826Post B.M »

Ross I think got the idea in the 2010 GF draw

He had bull Lenny Hayes 187/86 as an inside powerhouse
But he also moved in to the middle from a defensive wing the 190/92 Goddard while CJ did the tagging.

Then he went to Freo and went in big with their inside mids
Fyfe became a monster at 192/96
He moved in David Mundy from the backline at 193/94
Michael Barlow is huge, for anyone who seen him in real life would know 189/91
Plus the normal for Ross - the Tagger
Ryan Crowley 188/88
Plus they had the ultimate giant in Sandilands

If the draft goes our way - future midfield - inside bulls
Midfield Bulls
Jack Steele 187/89
Jack Macrae 191/85
Mattaus Phillipou 190/85
Marcus Windhager (tagger) 185/84
Josh Smillie 194/92
Harvey Langford 190/87
Hunter Clark 186/82
LDU 188/85 - doubtful

Ridiculous power

Other options
Mitch Owens 191/90
Liam Stocker (tagger) 184/87

Couple this with the outside running power of
Sinclair, Wanganeen Milera, Henry, Wilson, Hill, Butler, Wood

Not alot of speed in there though.

I'd like one of the mids we get to be a genuine speed freak.
Bo Allan seems to fit the bill for power and speed, issues with disposal efficiency though.

Speed is on the outside

Bo Allen is not worthy of our picks and will do a Jamie Cripps in 2 seasons

Isn't Darcy Wilson that speed freak mid the team needs - he almost won the sprint on GF day?

Greg Williams; Tony Liberatore; Bobby Skilton; Paul Kelly; Nick Daicos, Rozee, Butters.
Everyone wants a Crisp, Bontempeli or JHF. However a number of ways to skin the cat.

Midfield size is great if they can use it to find the ball and run. Getting all 3 is very difficult but there are a few players in this draft that fit the bill, Smillie, Langford, Allan, Marshall, Davis, Hynes, Ough, Johnson. Smaller players are usually better and cleaner at ground level excluding Cripps who is a freak.

Greg Williams and Libba played in a different era

Paul Kelly was incredibly good overhead - but even better as a player

Daicos, Neale and Butters are stars - if you are that good of course you can be a gun regardless of height
Add to that Sam Mitchell, Ben Cousins and Brent Harvey

But equally you can name
Cripps 194, Judd 189, Joey Kennedy 188, Watson 189, Goddard 190, Fyfe 192, Mundy 193, Dangerfield 190, Will Day 192, Jack Steele 187, Dustin Martin 187, LDU 187, Bontempelli 192, DeGoey 189 list goes on
