Trade Week

Does anyone believe the whole Trade Week media show?

Seriously does anyone think that clubs wait all year just to start sorting this out now.

Trades are done and will be announced as the media and AFL see fit.

All part of the show.

The AFL needs to shorten the actual trade period to 3 days max.

One problem is clubs want too much for "their" players.

Picks 10 and 11 for Bolton is bollocks.
Pick 6 + another pick is bollocks for Rioli.
Anything more than pick 17 for Smith is bollocks.
This years 2nd round and a future 2nd round for McCrae is bollocks.
A 2nd round pick for Parker is bollocks.

And on it goes, no wonder the trade period has stalled.

How many defenders will The Saints pick in the 2024 draft ?

I agree trade week is too long but if you think it is all sorted out before hand and get dropped randomly (or something) by AFL house, I think you have gone a bit too far conspiracy wise.

The deadline plays a major factor in dragging things out. Unless you want to spend whatever your receive, neither team has a reason to not keep haggling until the last minutes. If you think there is a possibility to get a better deal and all you have to do is wait to see if you can get it, why wouldn't you wait?

Cmon. Bloke on 850k announces he wants out with 3 years remains in his contract and names his preferred club.
Both clubs claim to having no knowledge of this.

Yep ok.

I don't listen to trade radio so any news just goes straight out of my mind unless it is particularly interesting, so you are going to have to be more specific around what this is in reference to and why it indicates it is all rigged.

If I had to guess, the player requested a trade with his club, they said they were open to it, but when they went to club two they realised they were too far apart so a deal wouldn't be reached. The player then either went early on going public or was still hopeful of a deal and tried to force the clubs back to the table by going public.

There's a step by step process. However...step 4 can't be negotiated between clubs if a player hasn't agreed to move to that club

1. Mcrae tells his manager he wants out of the Bulldogs.

2. Manager assesses potential interest and then...Mcrae nominates the Saints.

3. St Kilda publicly declare their interest. St Kilda agrees to honour his current salary and hope the Dogs are willing to offload Mcrae purely for salary cap relief.

4. The Bulldogs list manager tries to secure the best deal possible and requests what they think is fair based on the available draft picks from the suitor club. St Kilda remind the Bulldogs that we are doing them a favour by taking McRae's significant salary off their books FOR 3 YEARS

Once again...it's a process. And the last step is the hardest. McRae's manager had to find a club willing to take on the salary and the duration of three years.

Some people within St Kilda got excited and the Dogs perhaps thought that the Saints might front up with as high as a second round pick. Again...step 4 needs to be negotiated while clubs determine who they want to bring in through the National Draft.

Mcrae was often 5th, 6th or sometimes 7th inside mid in the pecking order at the Bulldogs. That's the line that our club needs to keep pushing

I am reminded of the words of Ferguson, then of Manchester United.

To the effect of, I am not interested in what Clubs I see as no threat to Manchester United are doing, but I am vitally interested in what Clubs I see as a threat to Manchester United are doing.

Granted, the AFL has the publicity nonsense of "Free Agents" destroying the competition (along with other nonsense "rules").

But, aside from that, why would Port Adelaide allow Houston to go to Collingwood?

When they can send him to North Melbourne.

Or keep him because he is under Contract.

What would be the point of this huge risk, little reward strategy?

This makes no sense. They could run the trade period for a month and trade radio would be going the whole time

A month of lard arse Josh Jenkins not finishing sentences and taking five minutes to eventually say he doesn't know every time he doesn't know would be a crime against broadcasting. Even Kyle Sandilands would agree with that.

Personally I agree, but the last time I gave it a listen they were doing what felt like 10 minutes of chat for 5 minutes of ads, so just based on that I could imagine they could sell a month of ad slots if they had the opportunity.

Tuesday October 15
ST KILDA and Brisbane have initiated a pick swap that could unlock a move for Jack Macrae to get to the Saints.

The Saints have landed picks 32 and 45 from the Lions in exchange for their second-round pick, which is currently No.27.

On the face of it a poor move by the Saints. Hope we are not overvaluing JMcC and undervaluing a good second round pick.

Not a poor move at all. The picks between 27 and 32 almost all belong to clubs who need them to bid on academy/father-son players.

Effectively we've gained pick 45 to move back one spot in the draft. Therefore if we get Jack Macrae for pick 45, we've landed him for simply moving back one spot in the draft.

And Port Adelaide let Houston go to Collingwood!!!

Lost their heritage, their colors and now their best player to the Victorian Magpies.

Hannebery on Trade Radio is worse, have you heard him trying to read from his computer screen, dire.

When I watched the show about player agents, “Show me the money”, I thought it was a documentary. Turns out it was a very realistic drama.

I should have known when I was watching it before the trade period started.

St Kilda doesn't have a pick in the 20's which is what the Dullbogs are apparently asking for McCrae.
Maybe we should tell McCrae we can't get a deal done and walk away.

A lot of clubs are having trouble dealing with the Dullbogs this trade period.

Tell them they can take pick 45 or nothing, he is absolutely unnecessary for us to get.

Also Richmond have 8 picks inside the first 24, potentially setting themselves up nicely!

Should we try and swap pick 10 or 11 for next year's 1st?
